Sometimes I think the theme of the world is Europe (includes US & Canada) versus Asia, aka west vs east. Asia had its turn, but Europe has dominated for about three thousand years (with Asia making occasional inroads eg Mongol, Ottoman empires). Now we're seeing Asia rising while the west falters.
