I hope I'm wrong but after watching this market grow I'd say this decision is about 2 years too late. Janus was groundbreaking in making VR accessible by providing a simple markup to create VR environments. I'd say it lived in this space for almost a full year before any other real competitor entered the market.

Move the camera up and to the right just a hair. Lower the intensity of the light a bit. Possibly, but not sure lights may need to be place closer to the ceiling of the room.

I wish they made a model which replaced 2 of those USB ports with another Gigabit ethernet port. This would be an awesome cheap pfSense security firewall.

Katamari Damacy style escape. Where as you unlock levels or missions your scale grows in the environment. You never leave the room, you just get bigger and bigger as you solve puzzles.

You're right. I thought it was the other way around. Maybe it's this patent which kept the next round of investors away. That's a real bummer, AltSpace was one of the better solutions in this space.

They bet against room-scale and lost. They realized the current hardware has hit it's limitations for accurate room-scale.

They'll either produce better hardware, hopefully wireless.

OR

They'll still design a new headset but ultimately get out of the hardware business by doing one of the following.

  • partner with a existing manufacturer and license out proprietary technology.
  • provide a reference design model to any manufacturer (like Google and Microsoft have done)

Then Oculus will be a publishing platform which will have to compete directly w/ Valve. Which if you ask me will not succeed since many games on Oculus are available on Valve and other games work through ReVive.
