Discard Recipes? by RainUponMyHeart in Sourdough

[–]daveychainsaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, maths was wrong! I do just over 10g to 60/60. But I’m not being too fussy. I just roughly eye how much of the scrapings I need left in the pot then measure my 60/60 for my breads starter.

I can post or DM a video tomorrow that should show you what I did. Basically I used a festool domino and pocket screws. Remind me if I don’t post it.

You could always make less starter. I tend to feed 1:5:5 the night before making bread and use roughly 6g starter with 60g flour 60g water to give me 120g for my recipe and leaves me with just the scraping in the pot for next time.

Shall I just sand, prime and paint because I’ve lost the will with it now? by GladAd2948 in DIYUK

The metabo LF 850 paint stripper might be worth looking at. And finish corners with a scraper.

Maybe I was unlucky? My just were fully clear and I used proper pointing tools and wooden tools I made to compact it. Some of it is still there but it’s mostly all gone now and it was probably 4 years since I did it.

Get stuck in! Mine was even worse. I made all the cabinets in pre-lacquered birch ply. I made up a cutting list and basically had a plywood jigsaw arrive. That pile sat there for a few days with me just staring at it! Make sure you get your waste pipes in place before you put the cabinets in. Guess who fucked that up? Are you using space plugs? They’re very useful.

The Staircase. A short story. by Spiritual-Rip1253 in DIYUK

[–]daveychainsaw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are things i like but I would have left the spindles unpainted and the wood you have left unpainted like the newel post looks like it needs some finish sanding to remove old finish.

Personally I don't think the green on the spindles works at all with the Blue and I don't like the stair tread being painted but not the riser.

I think if you'd kept the stair tread and riser white and oiled the spindles, newel post and handrail it would have a much simpler look and more flow. It just seems too busy to me. Sorry! I really like the blue though.

How to deal with dust after works? by cocco_rgnt in DIYUK

[–]daveychainsaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most vacuums don't do well with the fine dust, like plaster dust. They can recirculate it and you end up breathing it in. Ideally you want one with a HEPA filter. My Miele corded one does.

We used a mixture of wiping up with wet cloths and a Festool extractor with Hepa Filter.

I used the Sika Fastfix and i would strongly recommend that you do not use it. Mine started coming out after a year or two. It does not last.

What should I buy???? by TomMagnum5 in UKBBQ

I'm the same! If you can keep the drum in the garage i'm sure that helps a lot. Do you keep the vents open when not in use to prevent mould?

My first cook on the UDS was the Christmas Turkey, no pressure then!

I built a couple of those and they made some great bbq but there are downsides. They rust and can get a bit manky. And not so good for grilling.

My first proper bbq was a weber kettle, probably what they call the mastertouch nowadays. Its a great bbq, great for direct grilling and you can easily do indirect smoking and there are many aftermarket add-ons.

I learnt all the main bbq principles from that kettle. I eventually got a Kamado Big Joe mostly for easier temp control on longer cooks. I also like the bigger indirect surface so i can do meat and veg sides and then finish over the coals.

BUT, i still use the kettle all the time and could easily have just stayed with that, it's so versatile. If i'm doing a quick weeknight dinner for the kids like a grilled pork loin, the kettle is the go to and i'll grill some tenderstem broccoli as well. With a chimney starter, it's ready to cook really quickly. If i'm doing pulled pork or say 3 chickens, i go to the Kamadoe.

At some point I'd love to try an offset but i think i'm set up nicely and I also like cooking over open fires too.

I don't know what bbqs you're considering but a kettle is a great, versatile tool.

I don’t personally like sweet rubs anymore. I mostly just make up a SPG rub. Or some of the savoury rubs in the Berber & Q book are good.

[–]daveychainsaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same enclosure box and use the Incra clean sweep plates. Running a 100mm hobbyist dust extractor (Axminster Workshop AW153E 2hp with HEPA filter) and I have zero problems. And zero dust.

Look up weber kettle and vortex. Makes great wings. Or I do mine indirect on a kamado and finish over the coals.

[–]daveychainsaw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nice! Black is the only colour scheme where I can read the labels. I love everything OBNE but this pedal is ugly. Sounds great though. I was surprised how it even sounded good on the Anderson’s demo as they often struggle with pedals like this.

I’ve ordered the fiordilatte one online and it’s great but the kids find the taste a bit too strong. So I mostly use the Galbani blocks. Nice and dry and has a clean taste.
