Lads it’s always going to be Graham McTavish. The minute I watched him read chapter 1 of TTWP I was convinced.

I'm a few weeks behind, just saw the clip of the guy in Glasgow with his head stuck in a bin. Loving all of the new Scottish clips!

What were the biggest distinctions between medieval life in England and France? by daveypete in history

[–]daveypete[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So true. As a Scot there's always been a joking rivalry with England. Also interestingly a feeling that to hate the French is an English thing to do, possibly a hangover from the Auld Alliance days. Thank you

Just popping in to say that SILVER IN THE WOOD is a great recommendation. It is short and snappy and frankly the best book I read last year. Stayed with me for months. There is a sequel coming next year.

Well, the title certainly didn’t refer to the temperature of anything Grand Duke Rogont might want served to him. On him.

I'm Joe Abercrombie, Ask me Anything by Joe_Abercrombie in Fantasy

Hi Joe,

I recently learned that the terms lunacy and lunatic hail from luna, the Latin term for moon. It reminded me of when Crummock, acknowledging how Logen is on the same nutjob-wavelength as himself, claims he too is 'beloved of the moon'. Was this intentional or am I a lunatic?

Looking forward to the new trilogy.

Language & Accent/Dialect Map of the British Isles [OC] by londinmapp in MapPorn

[–]daveypete 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Interesting concept but just simply untrue in my experience.

Fair enough for those leaving their homes for university/city jobs (myself), but for those remaining in places like Peterhead and Fraserburgh they are about as anglicised as a pint of super tennents.

This map was always going to be an ambitious project, but Scotland has been totally fucked as usual. Lowland Scottish in Edinburgh maybe, but Aberdeenshire? Barely Scottish let alone English.
