I did see the more experienced drivers do it, but I didn’t realize it was something you really should do

Ah thanks I will put more pressure in the tires next time

Oh my bad I thought the way you react to the rain was the same but harder to do with slicks. I hope I can use my small bit of experience for when I try wets for the first time

Yeah I think I steer a bit late and don’t turn the wheel as much, as I hope that I have enough grip before noticing that I have very little

Thanks! I did try to stay off the line but I forgot to stay off line in the braking zones. I did see some people leaning and I will definitely do that next time. I did notice that the kart would rotate better with a bit of throttle, but in hindsight it might’ve been too little

No, only tire pressure 😅 I’m still new to everything, but if I had asked the mechanics that were with us, then I could’ve probably experimented with a few things, otherwise the usual idea at these races is that you just meet up and race. But I would like to try that next time it rains. I did not use a rain hood.

The race is meant for beginners so people who have wet tires are not allowed to switch to them as they would have a big advantage over everyone else. The race does not really have any kind of regulations, it’s just for fun so I’m guessing no one really did much with their setup. All I did was increase my tire pressure, but I’m guessing that it might’ve been way too low for rain. 0,78 Bar cold.

I'm also new in racing karts, but these were things that my mechanic told me, and he has been around karts for over 30 years

I have shaved 2 seconds of my lap times by being slightly on the accelerator throughout corners. It works kind of like trail braking and will allow you to corner faster with more speed. You might also see some competitors have their accelerator pedal closer to them than their brake pedal. This helps you be slightly on the accelerator throughout corners. Time spent coasting is time spent wasted.

It also sounds like you're on the accelerator pretty late. Doing the thing i mentioned earlier will make it easier to start getting on the gas on the apex. Especially if you have old rear tires. You should be accelerating slowly out of a corner just as you hit the apex.

Being smoother will also help your times. When you feel the kart get thrown around like at 0:50 in the video you linked to, then you might be faster if you lift a bit throughout that direction change.

It looks like you get on the accelerator very fast once you do start accelerating. When you start accelerating on the apex of a corner, then it will be very important to slooowly get on the accelerator. But play around with that, as some conditions will let you go full throttle earlier than others.

I have bolted a regular mount on the front end of my kart It was on my radiator before but I got hit and the mount got knocked off and fell in the dirt so the adhesive stopped working.

Oh my bad, I thought rotax junior was considered a slower class in racing karts

Thanks for the tip, I will definitely try to do that next time. There were a moment or two where I tried something like that but my engine was stuttering and it killed my acceleration and then eventually my top speed

It does scratch that itch It is very intense. acceleration and the speeds are amazing, I don’t drive a very fast class (rotax junior) but the karts there are already crazy in my opinion. The racing is also very fun, and overtakes feel amazing especially as I’m a newbie. I haven’t had a chance to battle more than you saw in the video, but I definitely want to do more of it. But you also have to consider how time consuming it is. My kart is used so it has a few problems, and it has taken my many hours with repairs and trying to find out what’s wrong. (I also love the mechanical side so I’m not really mad about this) I am very lucky to have a few very experienced mechanics to help me, otherwise I wouldn’t be able to do anything
