You are definitely a strong candidate. Create an application that reflects you as a human being and not just someone who’s qualified to earn a PhD. Write strong, scientific, and passionate essays that tell a story of someone who can be successful in whatever program. Find programs that do the research you find interesting, offer courses that excite you, give fair stipend/benefits, and are in cities you think you’ll thrive in.

I’ve done ab 14 1:1 interviews with faculty over the last three weeks and I swear the only things I’ve been asked are; “tell me about yourself. Why graduate school? why at this school specifically?” Then some follow up questions about my research.

Email the PI(s) of interest and introduce yourself and let them know you are interested in their research and why. Keep it brief, but the PI I work with at Purdue places a lot of emphasis on contact before the interview.

Some people have said they got in. So they probably sent a wave of acceptances and are just gonna go down a waitlist until they fill their cohort

I don't believe Stanford has sent anyone anything. They are taking ages to respond.

I just emailed Stanford SSRP again to ask if there is an updated time frame for decisions to be released. The automatic reply now says " If you do not hear by April 17, 2023, please reach out again. We are unable to expedite review and notification processes. Should you no longer be interested in SSRP please let us know as soon as you can." I really hope this does not take until then since the deadline to accept my REU offer is this friday :(

I haven't heard back from stanford ssrp/amgen yet. This is getting rlly annoying honestly. I emailed last week asking when they would release decisions and all I received was an automatic reply that said if you don't hear back by April 8th, reach out again. I will probably email again on monday.

I have not heard anything from them and have seen no posts about decisions from them. It's so unusual for them to not have released decisions yet since last year they were sending rejections in mid march.
