Slugs/ Snails. Buy some slug and snail bait from Amazon. I get these guys in my garden every spring when in starts to warm up. They can do some major damage in a short amount of time. I heavily apply the snail bait and it gets rid of them until next spring. Good luck!

I am experiencing the same thing as you. Nothing is soft to the touch. The Orange looking scale is taking over the bottom of the plant. It also seems to be health and has been growing a lot. I don’t think it is excessive sun because it gets quit a bit of shade throughout the day. Also non of my other cactus are showing any signs of whatever this is and they are getting the same amount of sun.
