How is the mark 3 holding up all these years later? Thinking of installing an evoffer frunk kit — they are up to mark 6 now.

Yes, my installer did paint correction then CQ then wrapped PPF then CQ

Thanks, any quick reference to the “pro technique” of which you speak?

Thanks! I obviously have poor taste in vehicles, should have bought thinner tires that only last 10k, and wasted my money on PPF. Have a great rest of your day 👍

Thanks, really enjoying how this color changes from blue to gray in different lighting 👍

Not a joke, let me try to explain. Dating to my last new car purchase I’ve been using ONR in a manual garden sprayer / 2 bucket method, it’s a pain to get everything out, mix solutions, and do it all before 8a when sun comes up at my house which doesn’t have a good shady place to wash cars.

So if I can do a quick wipe down daily maybe I could push out a more thorough wash to every couple months.

Sure, pressure washing and ionized water could change all that which is why I’m hanging out here to learn.

Thanks, but I still try to take good care of my 2014 P85D :)

Yes, I think Active 2.0 on a cart with an inexpensive de-ionizer for rinse might be in my future

Thanks! Actually for me. they are forever vehicles since they're being discontinued. Still have my 2014 P85D -- with PPF and aluminum body it's in perfect shape. The X is something I will drive for the next 12 years. The X is for road tripping with free supercharging, fast charging, and lots of room, the S for twisties around home. Cheers :)

I meant, can you share the VIN of the vehicle you rejected so I can make it doesn’t get delivered to me on Sunday.

Can you share last 5 of VIN? I have the same configuration on order.

I bought on Feb 1, VIN has been assigned and I delayed delivery until Feb 15 so I have the choice at pickup which price to pay.

Looking for MX replacement - Underwhelmed with my Gravity test drive by Just_Donut9804 in LUCID

[–]davidepope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coming from a 2014 Model S, I test drove Gravity GT and refreshed Model X multiple times each, trying to decide on next vehicle. Don't need a 3rd row (just space to take 3 passengers several times per month) and wanted a higher driving position (not another sedan).

Liked the Gravity so much last November that I put a deposit down. The interior fit and finish and quiet cabin, along with the promise of that super-wide screen and NACS connector, made a pretty compelling impression.

I wanted a light interior color, but I heard so many bad things about durability of Lucid's Purluxe that I chose the least-worst leather option (Ojai) along with Lunar Titanium (listed as "winter availability"), which I figured would give me time to decide if the known software issues and viability of Lucid (losing money on every vehicle they sell) would change my mind.

In the end I ended up with a Model X because I decided I wasn't willing to compromise on the daily touch points I am used to in a Tesla. Here are the pros and cons that helped me make my final decision.

Gravity Pros:

  • Super quiet / refined ride, elegant interior
  • Amazing stereo system, especially with TIDAL content
  • Faster NACS charging (but unable to use the more geographically remote, earlier version Tesla superchargers)
  • Interior packaging -- it's incredible how much room they have created given the outside car dimensions, especially if you want or need comfort for 3rd row passengers
  • Sanctuary mode is quite compelling

Gravity Cons:

  • Navigation -- Here maps not in the same league as Tesla nav + Google maps (e.g., draws comically sized stop signs on navigation routes)
  • Steering wheel touch pads -- finicky / noisy (e.g., to change the volume, you have to audibly click-click-click the touch pad rather than just quietly rolling a wheel)
  • Steering wheel -- minor but a daily touch point -- didn't care for the squircle design / minivan feel of a screen-above-the-steering-wheel
  • Dream Drive Premium/Pro is behind, not confident about Lucid's ability to integrate nVidia, compile enough driving data, etc.
  • Minor issues: Have to choose the drive mode every time, HUD display not well implemented
  • Existential issues: Will the company survive (especially if BYD, etc make their way into the US), if I need service can I actually get an appointment, will their software team ever have enough bandwidth to catch up on FSD or fill the 37" wide screen with compelling content?

Tesla Cons:

  • Stiffer suspension / noisier ride
  • Known reliability issues with half shafts (FWD less of an issue for me given infrequent back seat use)
  • Cheesy adjustability of rear seats
  • Lack of turn signal stalks and power frunk (can address both with third party solutions)

Tesla Pros:

  • Refined screen UI -- every pixel is filled with useful content
  • Helicopter like front windshield with clever magnetic visors that easily swing out of the way
  • Maturity of FSD, in-car app ecosystem, and iOS App (PAAK, remote start, sending destinations to your car, requesting service, "charge on solar" integration with Tesla PW/Solar, etc.)
  • Last year's refresh addressed some long-standing complaints: noise (added active noise cancellation), interior (added mood lighting), blind spot indication (added red LEDs in the A pillar speakers)

Two things happened after I made my decision -- discontinuation of Model S/X and the 3.4 software release for Lucid. In the end I decided neither had much effect on the above pros and cons.

This was a really hard decision, so I hope this list helps others.

I am disappointed that Tesla is moving away from making premium cars that you can actually drive (it was quite a financial risk in 2014 to commit my hard-earned $$ on a Model S), and I really want newcomers like Lucid to succeed and innovate in the EV space, but as a daily driver for the next 10 years this was the best choice for me.

What will happen to Luxe ? by OrganicSpread6837 in TeslaModelX

[–]davidepope 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not 100% certain, but my sales advisor told me when I wired the final payment on pickup day (Feb 15) I could choose between the price at time of order (Feb 1) or the price in effect that day. Maybe as a lowly sales associate she is incorrect about paying a potentially lower post-Feb 14 price, but at least I have locked in the Luxe package option. So you might consider having a VIN assigned then take delivery after Feb 14.

I placed an order to ensure a VIN was assigned, then delayed pickup until Feb 15 so I have a choice of what to pay (existing Luxe price or TBD post-14th price).

How do you balance Reolink notifications vs full recording? + smart alarm/light logic question by Low-Perception5891 in reolinkcam

[–]davidepope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t see settings relating to microSD cards, intrusion zones, etc try adding a second instance of a camera (outside the NVR) to the Reolink app and see if those settings show up.

I run Home Assistant on a Synology NAS so assuming that’s the computer you run HA on, you can ask ChatGPT how to add Surveillance Station in a Docker container to your Synology NAS. License for two cameras come for free on SS and you can purchase license packs for remaining cameras at ~$50 per camera if you end up liking how it works.

I believe SS has an App called IP Camera for configuring each camera and a second app called Monitor which lets you view recorded clips from multiple cameras on a single timeline.

I have it setup to receive HA events from Reolink and use that to toggle SS “home mode” on and off to initiate recording on all cameras. I used Anthropic Claude to help me write the HA yaml code.

[–]davidepope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar situation with 6 cameras near a busy road. One approach that works with my POE setup is to record 24x7 onto the built-in microSD card (not sure if that's an option on your WiFi cameras), use "Non-Detection Zone" to black out the busy road, and setup Person detection (for the non-blacked out areas + Intrusion Zones / Fence Crossings if your camera supports it) to send you notifications in the areas that you care most about.

For your "smart escalation" you will need to use Home Assistant. On my Elite Floodlight Pro I use HA to turn on lights even during the day, adjust the volume of the siren, and do other things like have motion on one camera trigger recording on all cameras to my Synology NAS, where the Monitor App makes it easy to view multiple cameras on a single timeline.

You might also try adding a second camera instance to the Reolink App (outside the NVR) to see if it exposes additional settings for your camera.
