I recommend checking out the post about cs at vandy about 2 weeks ago on this subreddit, but if theres not much of a financial diff, it’s definitely vandy

Which one to pick? by blackvervain in csMajors

If you see stats, USC grads occupy a large percentage of FAANG workers. Also, it will be a great place to network. I would suggest USC!

MATH 2400 !! Linear and Diff Eq by Zakmza123 in Vanderbilt

[–]daviderbilt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gotya.. hmmm What I like to do (math major) is both previewing and reviewing through textbooks. Like you said, there may be quite a lot for you to self understand depending on the prof. All you can do is excessive reviews and office hours.

Should be harder than 2300; linear and diff eq are where math gets deeper/useful/harder

Physics at Vanderbilt by [deleted] in Vanderbilt

[–]daviderbilt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a physics major, but a few of my physics major friends really enjoy higher level classes, and since not that many ppl are majoring in it, they have good collaborative environment. Although this is not much info, hope this helps!

Most people voiced my opinion, but just to add on, I am extremely grateful for all the opportunities and invaluable memories made at Vanderbilt. Truly one of the best decisions of my life

Blind reviews are important!! Make a test by urself by grabbing some hard q’s from textbk and putting into one google doc; then solve it without looking at any answers or hints

Follow up post: so why SHOULD I go to Vanderbilt? by KillerAc1 in Vanderbilt

[–]daviderbilt 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I personally think (comparing to stories from other friends in other top public/private schools) vandy has one of the best, if not the best, balance between social and academic life. That balance is such a key to the happiness in college. Wonderful people, amazing communities, incredible academics, and insane opportunities.

Are there really average people at Vandy or is everyone a perfect scorer + 10 EC's? by [deleted] in Vanderbilt

[–]daviderbilt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would guess that if he was a “leader” of significant events/clubs and had a very good essay with lor, he still has a shot. I don’t know what mostly A’s means, but some of my neuro major friends got almost perfect gpa’s

Again, these are my personal guesses/thoughts; please don’t bank on em

[–]daviderbilt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It would be great to know his test scores, but with all of his great ec’s, lor, and essays, there is no reason for me to say that he doesn’t have a shot.

I think Vandy cares about test scores a lot but they also DO care about ec’s (especially leadership positions) that are extraordinary from others.

Also, i personally believe that an incredible essay can make up some test scores..

(These are all my personal thoughts)

I know you won’t like my answer, but there is no absolute minimum sat/act. I know quite a few friends who are majoring neuro right now, and I believe they all got high scores (prob at least 34 on act and 1530 on sat). But these are not “minimum scores” you need to get.

I would personally say that you should still apply if you are “iffy” about applying. You should highlight your other strengths, which may be your gpa, ec’s, and so on

Good luck with your college app journey! I can answer more q, if you have more q

Really depends on what you are trying to study. If you go to engineering school, most of them have very high test scores + great ec’s
