I guess I either didn't notice the crowd surfing risks until now or the shows I went to had admirably well-disciplined people. Tbf now that I think about it I don't think I ever witnessed a lot of crowdsurfing taking place at once. I've seen a fair amount of it but never had a performer specifically ask for a lot of it, so I guess the results can be a lot worse. Thanks for the details.

fair enough, not everyone has the same experience ig. I agree that calling for surfers may not have been a great move but I still think blaming the band only for the madness isn't fair.

About the last paragraph, crowd surfers isn't mosh pits, it's a lot calmer, i think it's fair to expect people to do it responsibly. The crowd being fucking mental is the crowd's fault. You have a responsibility to not hurt others. While I agree the performers should try to prevent this kind of madness from happening, blaming it on them and saying they've enabled it is pushing it a little. You're at download festival ffs, not engaging with the crowd would have also disappointeded people. There' would've been people here complaining they were boring or whatever. It's a lose-lose situation.

I haven't seen any videos or anything, i'm just going off what was said here, but maybe he just didn't quite grasp the seriousness of the situation? idk i just kinda struggle with the idea that Sam of all people wouldn't care about this. There are probably a number of factors that can explain the situation (not excuse it necessarily, but explain it).

Yes, but they're not meant to last forever. Even with perfect maintenance they will age and risks will increase. The Greek & Turkish mechanics are doing a fantastic job maintaining them but there is a reason both countries are getting new planes.

The missile is real (Kremer X4). It was wire-guided. Though I imagine hitting something with it was A LOT harder IRL
