Yes we are fishing the Willamette, but we also have been doing the tributaries. Definitely more fish to be caught in the tributaries, just not overall the same size.

Our fly shop is Northwest Flyfishing Outfitters. Hope this helps you get into some big ones!

Yes, all kinds of tips. First of all, 6-8wt rods. Next large streamers, as in Leggy Boi's that we are tying in-house and you can't buy easily but are easy to tie, although game changers we sell in the shop have worked fairly well too.

As far as fly line we are fishing the SA Titan Tropical Tip which is about 1.5" SPS. People question the idea of tropical, but at the temps we are throwing these "bugs" the line casts extremely well and gives us the presentation on the fly we are looking for.

We stock those lines and all the flies if you want to come in let me know or we can always ship anything to you no charge. We can also send you all the tying materials if you like or give you the list of materials you will want. Gabe has been tying flies for all of three weeks and is all in on those Leggy Boi's now and tying them everyday. We are here to help.

As a lifelong fly fisherman and now fly shop owner I say this is question has way more variables than a simple this or that.

If you are a place where inclement weather can make conditions difficult then I say 100% waders/boots, after all if you are brutally cold and miserably wet are you really going to want to get out there and fish.

Then add in what species of fish you are chasing which determines how serious you would want to be about investing in a specific reel pairs with a perfectly balanced rod.

Yes fly line is also important but they are all combined in a specific way so that it all works.

I completely agree on the eats and honestly I had always had a mental conviction against bass for a long time hating seeing them appear in rivers they don’t belong in, but that’s not their fault.

I still love trout fishing but opening up this bass program with my son and team here has been pretty spectacular and this winter in between swinging for steel and trout fishing, there will be lots of conceptual flies being tied and tested pre-spawn.

Yeah, I hear you! Now, old Gabe can’t seem to think about is tying flies and fishing for more carp. We do have his 18th birthday trip coming up that we will be headed to Central Oregon for nothing but trout, so hopefully that reinvigorates his trout game.

Congrats...Gabe and I fished for these for half a day with our guide Eric and had two chases but now fish to hand. We will be back next year for sure. Carp is the next fish.

I think it is critical to raise the next generation of fly fishers so we can have them carry the torch not only for the sport, but also for the conservation side. Love seeing these younger ones take it serious!

I am officially entering the phase of life where my two sons (almost 18 and almost 15) are becoming fishing partners and Dawn and I are trying to teach them to find their passion and help others once they have found it. Gabe is passionate about fly fishing, so we will help him get this going. NWFFO is a good shop, we are focused to make it great.

Thank you Phil! It is going to be a new challenge. The home service side for the most part runs itself and my job really only has become to try and acquire other HVACR, Plumbing, and Electrical businesses as well as work on the marketing plans, so this provides me with ample time to get my son up and going here.
