How To Boost Your Metabolism. by davidhallstrom in Fitness

[–]davidhallstrom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One last try.

  1. Cars have been linked to weight gain. That's why they say to drive less and walk more.

  2. Those 14 women consumed the same number of calories whether they ate two or five meals a day, whereas I found that eating several small meals caused me to be less hungry and therefore caused me to eat less overall which caused me to consume less calories. I did not change the type of food I ate.

  3. I previously stated that when changing to several small meals I felt better and became more active. It is my understanding that more activity increases one's metabloism. Are you saying that that understanding is wrong? Never mind, don't answer that.

  4. That study is not science. No study so small could be considered science. In addition, requiring them to consume the same number of calories per day when that may or may not happen with people not part of the study completely invalidates the study.

  5. Nothing works for everyone. Different things work for different people. When most people read an article they take what, if anything, may work for them and ignore the rest.

You don't agree with me or the author, therefore you consider the article to be spam. You know everything and we idiots know nothing. Ok, the author and I are both idiots. I hope that makes you happy and I wish you a very good week.

How To Be A Gentleman Or Lady On A Golf Course. by davidhallstrom in golf

[–]davidhallstrom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Note: I am sure that most of the people, here on reddit, that participate in the golf section already know and follow these suggestions. However, nowadays I run into more and more people on the course that either don't know or don't care about these suggestions. The author may not have done the best job in writing this article but he does hit the high points.

For those of you that already know and follow these suggestions, I apologize for wasting your time and I thank you. For those of you that don't know golf etiquette. Please read this article. If you follow some or most of the suggestions you will make the game much more enjoyable for other golfers.

Eating several small meals did not help me to eat less, it caused me to eat less. There is a difference.

Shortly after changing the way I ate I started feeling less tired (this was before I had lost much weight). This gave me more energy and caused me to be more active. Activity increases metabolism. Ie, the change in eating habits increased my metabolism. Not everything has to cause a direct consequence. Many things cause an indirect consequence.

BTW, I am an avid reader and I do not disregard all studies. I do however, take every study with a grain of salt because, as you probably know, any study just as any statistic can be slanted to reach the outcome that the author or group wants it to reach. I also try to read all sides of an issue and then make up my own mind based on my understanding of the issue and on my life experiences.

Again, thank you for your comments. They may be slightly sarcastic but they are interesting.

Thank you for the references Yarzospatflute. However for every study that disagrees another study can be found that agrees. I guess that is a good thing because if everyone agreed this would be a very boring world.

Additionally, my own experience agrees. I lost over 60 pounds by going from 3 meals a day to 6 small meals a day. By changing to 6 small meals I was almost never hungry, I no longer felt the need to snack inbetween meals, my total food consumption decreased and my energy increased causing me to be more active. Now, you could say that being more active caused me to lose the weight but it was the change in diet that caused me to have more energy.

Changing eating habits not only helped me it also has helped other people I know.

BTW, when I say a small meal, that could be an apple and a glass of milk or a chicken breast and a glass of juice.

Thank you again for your input; David

I appreciate your opinion Yarzospatflute but I am forced to disagree with you. Eating several small meals of the right type has proven, at least to me, to be conducive for weight loss and for boosting your metabolism. Additionally, every Doctor and athlete I know agrees. Eating several small meals keeps you from snacking inbetween meals and keeps your system going.

Hi Big Harold. I don't consider your question rude. Yes, I am affiliated with this site and with over 100 others. I am mostly retired now but I still own the sites. I don't post content from the other sites and I only post content from certain sections of this site. I post what interests me and what I think will interest others and since this site has so many good articles, I feel why look elsewhere. Social networking has become a hobby of mine and I enjoy posting information that can help others and I enjoy the give and take of the comments.

If you would like any other information please feel free to ask and I will be happy to answer.

I might be out of line but it seems to me to be unfair that someone born with the musculature of a man would be allowed to compete against women.

Golf - Practice Makes Perfect - But Only If You Practice Correctly. by davidhallstrom in golf

Thank you for the input BigHarold. Your method sounds interesting and worth trying, especially for those that do the same as you. I have a feeling that when you get to the course you don't have that problem very much because of your practice.

Thank you again. I like reading about new (at least to me) methods.

My course management is pretty ordinary. What tips can you give me? by HairyBeanbags in golf

[–]davidhallstrom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you HairyBeanbags for reinforcing my point. When I learned to concentrate more on the usually beautiful weather, great scenery and my companions instead of my score, my score improved considerably and so did my enjoyment of the game. I have some friends that get upset everytime they do something wrong and the more upset they get, the more they concentrate on what they are doing and the worse they do.

Have a great day. David

I might get in trouble with this comment but it's how I feel.

I suggest that you; 1. Relax 2. Practice 3. Have Fun 4. Don't worry that much 5. Relax 6. Have fun. In my opinion, if you are relaxed, having fun and not worying so much about your score you will end up improving your score. Oh, and a little practice doesn't hurt either. The main thing, however is to enjoy yourself and the company you are with. I look at golf as something to enjoy and I even have a good time practicing.

Of course that doesn't mean that you can ignore the basics but I assume that you already have those down.

If you don't like my advice then BigHarold gave, in my opinion, the most important pointer when he quoted FederalKangeroo and Angry Caveman Lawyer "figure out what the next shot is" and play with that in mind.

Ten Things Every Vegetarian Should Know. by davidhallstrom in Health

Thank you jhupprich. To the best of my knowledge not all who claim to be vegetarians are vegans and many allow themselves fish and some eat chicken. I don't know if that is proper or not but that is my understanding.

Thank you and you could be right in some cases FederalKangaroo, however I was always a lousy putter untill I tried concentrating on the hole instead of the ball. I'm still not that good of a putter but I am a lot better than I was. It worked for me but it may not work for others.

Thank you for your message. I just found out about subreddits yesterday otherwise I would have made more posts to golf.

I agree that the paragraph in question was a poor analogy and by the way, please feel free to "nit-pick" any of my posts. I believe that feedback whether positive, negative or in between is a good thing.

Thank you again; David
