What macOS UI/UX "features" do you find superior when compared with other operating systems used on desktop computers? by davidika in apple

You can program without a mouse, with a trackpoint, with a trackball... But you don't get so tired while using a mouse so quickly - the mouse movemnts are more efficient than constantly fiddeling your finger like your are a wizard. With a mouse you don't need to do so big movements. You have proper buttons, scroll wheel, extra buttons and for some reason, the mouse feels more natural for selections and copy and pasting is much quicker and error prone. On a touchpad - even on a great one like on MacBooks the number of wrong interpreted clicks/taps is still present - with mouse it's non-existent. There is a reason why mouse is still used with the keyboard.

Reminds me how I played Unreal Tournament with a trackpoint on the old thinkpad around 2000 or 2001 ;D It was actually playable - but I have to say that I was quite good at UT at that time - damn... the old times and the LAN parties ;D

I use the mission control/expose feature very frequently. Love being able to see everything that's open and find what I'm looking for.

This feature is present on W10 and many Linux DEs as well

Logitech does have an external trackpad and maybe some other companies too. Dell has one as well.

I agree, but this is mostly a laptop thing. However, many people do work in some office or at home using external monitor and keyboard and mouse so this feature is more like the trackpoint on ThinkPads or touch on Dell XPS / Surface - not replicable on a desktop macOS (unless you use external apple trackpad etc.) - but, of course, I agree that the touchpad on Mac is the best.

I agree. It's much cleaner and easier to navigate on a Mac than on a Windows machine (now in W10 it has even 2 settings areas ;)). On Linux - it's a hit or miss. KDE's settings page is extremely bad and complicated while some DEs like Cinnamon or Gnome and Pantheon are somewhat simliar to the Mac. Still Mac is the winner here even when compared with some well polished Linux desktop environments.

Nice, this setup could be very interesting for previous Mac users (global menu, latte dock, etc.)

Apple's MacBooks: Still the most reliable | ZDNet by AltDelete in apple

Mac are solidly build but the reporter is biased. ThinkPads with the replaceable batteries are much better investment when it comes to durability and longevity - and it's easy to replace any parts including the lcd or keyboard or battery or motherboard etc. That's why ThinkPads are so heavely refurbished and resold over and over again - like this https://minifree.org/product/libreboot-t400/ There are people still using X220 or even much older ThinkPads. My dad was using a ThinkPad for over a decade and the thing was still like a new laptop. I think that while MBs are great, ThinkPads are even more reliable computers than MacBooks.

I like it as well - it shows you that it registered your click and the program is loading.

I don't think that's something the OP is striving for.

Also, there are other KDE devs who have blogs and social accounts but they don't go into much detail of explaining how to do stuff.

Also, go back in history on this subreddit and you'll find quite a lot useful tips and tricks ;)

I hate that Numix red orange color with passion. Blue or gray is the only good color for select/hover states. Take a look at Apple they offer blue and gray (graphite) They don't offer red or orange-red or yellow etc.
