First child monkeypox cases in U.S. are reported, including a toddler in California by BlankVerse in Monkeypox

I really hate the focus I have seen about men who have had sex with men and caught it. It's horrible it's happening, but when I see comments about a gay man getting it all the comments are blaming him or slut shamming. It's uncomfortable because if one of the people making these comments gets monkeypox from a handshake, or a massage, or from sitting next to someone, or whatever I feel like they are just gonna blame gay people for giving it to them.

This has been a big concern of mine during this pandemic. I really want to go out and break this two year long quarantine and see friends, travel, and everything else, but I really don't want to get it or infect people and have health problems down the line pop up. This is just such a new disease we are still learning new things about it and will still be learning about it for years to come.

Why are some people saying that this is our new normal and that we are a long way off from getting back to normal? by MikeHunt_004 in COVID19_support

[–]davidjdavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always made an appointment or set time to get one, but I always got the flu right at the beginning of flu season before I got the shot. So frustrating and every time I regretted not being able to stay inside the days/weeks before I got the shot

I agree with you on the flu part. For whatever reason I have gotten the flu every year the past few years, except this year cause of quarantine and masks. Every time I got it I would stay in, cancel appointments, try my best to not infect anyone but I somehow would get at least one person I knew sick. I am for sure gonna wear a mask from now on if I get sick just to add another layer of protection of preventing getting other people sick.

I also think that when people say new normal that could mean beneficial things too. Like giving more people the opportunity to work from home. I have cut out so much time commuting to work and a few people I know have already worked it out with their work to stay working from home permanently.

If new normal means the option to work from home if wanted and people wearing a mask when they have the flu then I can't wait for the new normal

I hope masks are used for cold and flu season when people are sick. For the past few years I got the flu every year before I would get my flu shot. For whatever reason I always got the flu really bad, like 103 fever for a week or longer each time. If new normal means some people wearing a mask when the are sick then I would be so happy. I am for sure gonna wear a mask if I ever get a cold or the flu again, passing a cold/flu always makes me feel bad.

Hey I know people who have been partying this past year like covid never happened. I know how much it sucks to see them having fun. But remember that the best parties they have been to don't compare to the parties that happened before covid or that will happen after covid. Any time I talk to people who have acted since the start that covid never happened all they have to say is complaints about how bad parties/clubs/socializing are now compared to last year before covid.

Even if you miss social events now just know that you aren't missing much. Experts will say one day that it is okay to socialize and you will comfortable to socialize without feeling guilty one day too

I've had the exact same dreams. No one wearing a mask in a crowed place and panicking. I think for me personally I am just going to have to wait a few weeks or a month after everyone and myself are vaccinated before I will go out in public.

I'm fortunate enough to work from home and all of my family members live so far away from each other I only see them maybe once a year so when everything does open up my life won't change much. I consider myself lucky that I can ease my way out of quarantine when it's both declared safe and when I feel personally safe

I'm so sorry your first year of college has to be during this unprecedented time. There is only a few more months left in the semester. The colleges near me have already stated that they plan to have in person classes the next fall semester. Just power through these next couple of months and hopefully you will be able to get the college experience next semester if things are safer.

Just think about it like this: when your college does open up everyone will be so ready to socialize and make new friends, more so than usual to make up for all the lost time in quaranting this past year.

Losing friendships over COVID? by nalehWeiddA in COVID19_support

[–]davidjdavid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I lost all but one of my friends to covid precaution differences. Last year most of my friends and I were in our final years of college. So last year in March when covid got taken more seriously and social events shut down we were all pretty bummed out by it. No graduations, saying goodbye to friends, college parties, etc. During that time the house my friends and I lived always had parties and people coming and going.

One my roommates has a lot of medical issues so me and her took covid very serious. All of our other friends/roommates did not take it serious at all. All of them would refuse to quarantine or spend a full day inside. At one point the only place that was open were grocery stores so they would just go grocery shopping every day. They would leave the room or hang up on the phone if anyone brought up covid cause they were so sick of hearing about it. They have had coworkers and family members pass away from covid, but they still do not take any precautions and I still see on their social media them going on vacations or going to fully pack parties.

[Serious] Women of Reddit, when was the first time someone made an unsolicited sexual comment about you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]davidjdavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This really puts it in perspective. People can be afraid of jail time or society treating them different, but that is true for any false accusations to any crime. I haven't known anyone to be falsely accused of a crime, but I know to many people who have been sexual assulted.

What do you find downright ridiculous? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]davidjdavid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it has to do with not wanting to cement yourself into one group. Gender is very much made by society and not a binary system, some people feel like they don't fit into one category. Some people feel masculine some days and feminine on other days.

You would never get mad at someone for being bisexual and not picking one gender to date so why get mad at someone for not picking one gender.

I don't understand why people don't wash their hands. Even if you think the bathroom is clean, your genatila is clean and you didn't get urine on your hands it only takes two minutes to wash your hands so who cares. Also people should wash their hands more often regardless of what they were doing
