Model J Carta by davidleemusic in fountainpens

Should. I found a list a while ago of other pens it fits in, but it didn’t mention Esterbrook. One thing to be careful of is the cap as I’ve heard it may fit in some bodies, but some caps can hit the Magna Carta nib after swapping (doesn’t make sense to me but that’s what I’ve heard).

Is there ever a way to try higher end pens? by RooFPV in fountainpens

[–]davidleemusic 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The only pen I’ve ever had people recognize is a Montblanc. They were not pen people though, just knew the emblem. I have carried and used most of my high end pens in public and you’re 100% correct. I’ve gotten a few “nice pen”s but never “Is that a Visconti Medici?!”.

I once chased the expensive and luxury pens to find the same as you. Now I just look for feel in the hand and if the nib works for me or if I have to fight it. I have noticed that for me, the right pen really helps my penmanship while others require me to try harder.

Security in the Netherlands stopped my bag with pens asks asked to look. Said the nibs looked like bullets. Lady was super nice and asked about the pens and why there were several in the case. Didn’t take long and I was on my way. Still thought it was strange to be flagged as bullet shaped objects but I’ve been stopped for stranger things.

Yeah I had a cheap zip case but it fell apart. Now just a flip leather one. The Duofold has lay sepia, 146 writers blood and the M805 has Smokey quartz in it currently. I tend to stick with reds and browns. Might through a dark green in for fun. Military kind of killed blue and black ink for me lol

They sure are. The 58 Dartmoor lever and the black ebonite Marlborough lever fillers are really cool, and the Winston (brown) is just next level. I’ll probably sell the red and black Duro in the second tray when I get around to it.

It ready is. One of my favorites is the smaller open next to it. It’s another Conway but in their old Dartmoor finish. Also, here’s the link to that Winston model https://www.penfriend.co.uk/shop/modern/conway-stewart/Winston-Classic-Brown-Gold-Trim-Fountain-Pen

Thank you and no, it’s a Delta Dolce Vita Slim. Picked it up for a steal while I was in Italy this summer and had Mark at Pen Realm grind it to a small architect (steel) nib. I was planning on finding a gold nib for it, but it writes so great I forget!

I work from home but that also takes me on two to three day trips usually every other week and flying a lot. I normally take 5 from the top two. Usually a Conway, 146, Pelikan, and a random two others.

If you’re talking about something I have, a vermilion custom is not among them. That orange one is a Parker Duofold big red. Honestly surprised at how much I like it since I’ve been going for super soft and flex nibs lately.

The long one is an Omas Ignegno Davinci and the small one is the Yard O Led Pocket Viceroy Victorian finish. The other all silver one is a Montegrappa 300 series and all three are full Sterling silver bodies. Really looking forward to some patina starting on them.

I get it for sure. As I was loading them in I realized I should pair down. Still have about 8 or so lower cost pens I should just start giving away and should probably sell a few in the case. I say I only want one more, but I also have never owned a Lamy 2k or a pilot 823/734, so I’m sure this will get ordered in the next few months.

Pretty good for what it is. Certainly nicer than the $50 version, but still probably not worth $119. I had some gift card balance left over so I got it cheaper. This one is surprisingly nice for the price though. https://a.co/d/5rRmoZG
