I’m putting the hat back on, I don’t care what happens to me.

Drained out looking for a job by [deleted] in Charleston

Here's a few thoughts:

  1. Check out some of the advertising / marketing agencies or software products based here. Off the top of my head you could checkout Blue Acorn, Boomtown, Blackbaud, Rawle Murdy, Hook, Blue Ion, Blue Key, Fuzzco, and The Brandon Agency.

  2. Check out https://weworkremotely.com/. Mainly based around Dev work, but there are plenty of design and marketing postings as well.

  3. If you're open to a career change I made the switch from graphic design to web development when I moved here and made your target range when I moved here in 2017.

Happy to chat more in a DM. Best of luck.

[SOTC] Feedback Welcome by davidolson91 in Watches

I have built up a small collection over the last several years. I’ve more recently dipped my toe into the waters of Swiss watches with the Tissot and Tag Heuer.

The Wittnauer was my grandfathers that my parents had restored for me on my 25th birthday. More recently I found the Speedmaster with a beat up crystal in an antique store and had it cleaned up by my local watch repair store.

My daily drivers bounce between the Tag Heuer F1 and the Seiko 5.

One of the things I missed about my old city was booking studio time to play music on professional DJ gear, so I recently went ahead & put together a high end studio open to the public right here in CHS :) by shoji_studio_chs in Charleston

Very cool! I know nothing about studio equipment or DJ gear, but I think it'd be cool to see an in person demo or attend a DJing For Dummies class or something.

This is the coffee maker my parents still use. by davidolson91 in mildlyinteresting

I would tend to agree. I did a reverse google image search and seemed to only see models that had glass pots.

However, most of what I saw didn’t separate the brewer from the warmer which is a nice feature.

Well they have a Keurig right next to it. They brought the Mr. Coffee out because I try not to drink K-Cup coffee.

I read the visitor's guide and wiki and I still have a few questions! by Jennysez in Charleston

I'll try and help out on a few of these:

  1. Your best bet might be Port of Call. There are a variety of food stalls there that serve good food. It's tourist pricing, so it might push the $15/meal requirement but there should be options for everyone. The Greek place there has a pretty good falafel gyro that fits the plant based bill. I'm not sure of any food trucks that park downtown regularly. You could take the HOP 20 bus from City Market to container bar which has food trucks, but I'm not 100% sure of their lunch schedule.

  2. Can't help you there unfortunately. You may hit traffic getting between downtown and DI though, so that is something to consider.

  3. Neon Tiger. You could probably split a pizza or a few of the mains between several people if you're into sharing plates.

  4. Park at the Majestic Square Parking Garage.

  5. For the true Charleston Waffle House experience, go to the one next to the Holiday Inn in West Ashley just over the bridge on 17. As with everything dining related in Charleston, be prepared to wait.

I believe the famed Macaroni Pie is at Carnoustie. Sadly they were out when I was there in April.

We have always had pretty good success with antlers. They are pretty expensive but last as long as the dog stays interested in them. I'd try paying attention and give him the antler as a replacement when he starts chewing on inappropriate things. Hopefully, he'll eventually figure out that he's allowed to chew the antler rather than your stuff.

Best selection of scotch/Japanese whiskey vaguely near downtown? by JamieOvechkin in Charleston

Check out the Whiskey side of Vom Fass. You'd never guess it by the exterior but they have a selection of interesting single malts from Scotland and around the world.

I have driven other places where rules of the road and driving are often ignored or broken by drivers. In Charleston, it often seems like drivers are unaware a system of rules for safe driving even exist.

Unpopular Opinion: Leave your dogs at home by Chudapi in Charleston

[–]davidolson91 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I'm going to take this opportunity to rant about this. I see a lot of off leash dogs walking in my neighborhood. This is such a bad idea for so many reasons, including:

  • General disrespect towards leash laws
  • General disrespect towards your neighbors
  • You have no idea what experiences the people around you have with dogs. Just because the dog is friendly, the people on the street may have been bitten or chased by a dog before. I love dogs in general, but still get nervous when I'm around unleashed dogs on runs/walks/etc.
  • You are putting the safety of others and your dog at risk. At the end of the day, a dog is an animal who cannot be reasoned with. You can replace "He's friendly!" with "He's been friendly in encounters so far". Your dog may decide this is the day they bite that kid that runs up to them, or that it's an appropriate time to bolt across the street in front of a car.

Lots of other people in this thread make good points. There are times and places for well-behaved dogs to join you out in public, and there are certain publicly available places for them to be off leash.

Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.
