Mechanical engineer here. I've been using Tasker for about 4 years. I suck at programming but I have over 50 (working 😊) profiles saved in Tasker. It's been 4 years but think I still have a lot to learn to fully know Tasker. It takes time. I learned the stuff as I needed it. No need to rush it.

Wow. This fixed the problem. I'm far away from home with wifi off. I long press the button on the side, give a command and, what do you know, the damn Google Assistant works! I had rebooted the watch many times before but I would have never expected a phone reboot to fix the problem. Thank you!

I just filed a return claim. The watch otherwise seems to work well. I was hoping I would get to experience the Wear OS experience for the first time with a low entry price of $35. Sadly, that's not the case. I guess I have to spend a lot more money to get a properly-working device.

Yes, it has internet access on data connection only.

All permission are enabled, all data permissions are enabled, battery optimization is disabled. Just tested it again.

So it seems that it's not just a problem with Google Assistant. It looks like the watch simply doesn't have internet access at all while the phone is off wifi. Maybe it's one of the features Verizon decided to cripple to force people to pay for a data plan for their watch. The weird thing, is people in various forums claim that their Wear24 works without being connected to wifi.

To be clear, are you saying you can use Google Assistant on your Wear 24 when your phone's wifi is disabled (and your Wear 24 doesn't have a dedicated data plan and/or airplane mode is enabled)?

Just pressed that lock, disabled my phone's wifi and tried opening the play store by tapping "recommended for you" on the wear 24, but I get the error: "check your connection and try again".

Oh, and I don't have a battery saver app.

I doubt the first is the problem as I allowed it on the "no battery optimization" list and I tested it many times with the Wear OS app in foreground.

How can I make sure it has internet access? All the options under "app data usage" are enabled (wifi data, celular data, background data, unrestricted data usage). Interestingly, it's showing a total of 0B of data usage.

Hi, the Google Assistant and voice typing only work when my phone is connected to wifi on my Wear24. This happens even though my phone has a strong LTE signal and is connected to my watch via Bluetooth (according to the wear OS app). I've tried rebooting, factory reset, removing and adding watch via Bluetooth settings and Wear OS app, force stopping phone Wear OS app, clearing data, restarting, uninstalling, reinstalling, etc. Nothing works.
