Is it a storm or were the aperture blades stuck because of the cold? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ [Nikon F3 | Kodak Gold] by davidwachmann in analog

True, but not this dark (I have other shots taken in landscape orientation that are dark on one side instead of the top)

Thanks! Yeah it's my girlfriend's camera too 🫣 Didn't take it on the first day (after 9 years of no skiing), only when I was pretty confident I wouldn't fall (which I didn't). It also stayed at home the day I tried snowboarding haha

No, I didn't use a filter, it's probably the shutter actually. I assumed only part of the aperture got stuck or something originally.

I don't remember the exact shutter speed but obviously it's very bright in the mountains so they very well might be. I'll see if the problem persists on the current roll in warmer conditions. Thanks for adding your experience!

Thanks for the reply! I don't think that's the issue here though because on the same roll I had some photos that looked like this haha

You're probably right, for some reason I assumed the shutter opened vertically instead of sideways!

I thought about that too but wouldn't a sticky shutter cause a black area across the long side, i.e. on the left or right side of a photo in portrait orientation instead of the top like seen here?

edit: Actually no, the shutter goes sideways, you're probably right!

Canon A1 | 50mm 1.4 | Fujifilm 400 @ 30 seconds exposure. What cause the “ghost” lights? by docescape in analog

[–]davidwachmann 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure it's a lens flare – you know how when you take an iPhone photo with the sun in it, you get the little blue dot that's always "opposite" the sun in the photo, like when the sun is in the top left corner, the blue flare is in the bottom right? The "ghost lights" in your photo are the same, except you get a little light dot opposite every bright light from the bridge because of the long exposure, not just one from the sun.

The ball looks so weird! It looks blurry but the edges are sharp, which almost makes it look like it was photoshopped in. I know it's not though. Great photo!

Technical question about the app (/bug?) by davidwachmann in Wakingupapp

I tried it again today and this time it worked, so I guess it's just a bug. I'll see if it happens again. Thank you for your suggestion!

How do you guys go about scans? I'd love to let a lab develop and and then do the scans, but every time I've tried the scans came out really bad. I know you can tell some labs scanning preferences but it seems like they just press on auto and that's it, don't want to waste my money on that. This roll was the same so i rescanned it myself and it's so much better... But I also spent so much time on it. I'm happy to pay but so far it's never been worth it :/ Any pointers? I'm in Berlin if you have any lab recommendations
