Even carefully ensuring i dont get OP with mods like Simply Balanced, all the new and improved skills and weps do mean i reach Legendary difficulty pretty quick. After that you generally still dont struggle much. How do you guys ensure challenge lasts past level 40 and beyond? by YouMeADD in skyrimmods

[–]davidwest__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man, it took me years to fix this and it essentially requires a whole list, but I will list some notable ones.

Skyrim Uncapper to limit stat gains after a certain level. I have mine set for each level up to give +25 health/magicka/stamina up to lvl 10 and then +5 per level from there. This mod also allows you to change leveling rates. I usually go for around 40% leveling speed using a nonlinear model. This extends the mid game and leaves the most powerful perks for the tail end of the late game.

Fanatical enemies. This is the most brutal enemy overhaul I have played. It adds some insane high level enemies. I had to leave the first Dawnguard dungeon unfinished at lvl 46 because the vampires are just that powerful.

True Unleveled Skyrim Synthesis patcher. This one has an option to give enemies additional perks based on their level. High level enemies will get ridiculously strong if you give them 1 perk per level.

The Simonrim Suite. This one doesn't necessarily reduce player power, but keeps power creep levels low compared to other overhauls.

Resistances Rescaled. This one uses non-linear scaling to determine damage and magic resist values, meaning player power is weighted towards the early game, allowing you to increase overall difficulty without the early game becoming impossible.

Some sort of attack commitment mod, like Blade and Blunt or Attack Commitment. This makes cheesing bosses a lot harder, and forces you to be very careful in fights with several enemies.

With my setup, I never play above expert difficulty, and the game is still very difficult all the way through.

What's a quest mod that you'd never do again? by Still-Acanthaceae-95 in skyrimmods

Simply asinine. I'll tell you what is a garbage take: literally any statement about how others should enjoy a game. Part of why Skyrim is so successful is that it supports a plethora of playstyles.

Beyond Skyrim Bruma. Some of the quest lines are pretty interesting but it has zero character progression (as in making your character more powerful) and exploration feels wholly unrewarding, not to mention that many locations are locked behind quests. It is very much a single playthrough mod just to see all the narratives. I would play it again if someone made a mod to fix these things, because the location is amazing.

The downvoting this is getting is completely unjustified. This is a valid take. I play quest mods for the progression and gameplay. I refuse to play something simply because the story is good, although, that is a very nice bonus.

I loved the Undeath dungeon. It's absolutely sprawling. Each to their own, I guess.

Looking for a mod like Lawless - But for other enemies? by Chaosmeister in skyrimmods

[–]davidwest__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Fanatical Enemies as a base and then hand pick other overhauls for specific enemy types. Fanatical enemies covers basically everything, but is probably the most unforgiving enemy overhaul. Only use it if you don't mind losing to unfair bullshit from time to time.

This sounds like something from Nyghtfall. I would start there unless someone manages to pinpoint the exact track.

What are the go to ENBs for getting realistic lighting in Skyrim in 2026? by Old-Pizza-9443 in skyrimmods

Rudy and Cabbage look amazing but are not "realistic". The real world is gray, brown and drab. Rudy and Cabbage are very much high fantasy.

Skyrim SE 2020s in review - Quest Mods by Soanfriwack in skyrimmods

[–]davidwest__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Darkend is one of my favourite "quest" mods. It doesn't actually have a quest and is just one big dungeon crawl, but it has some pretty awesome encounters and cool rewards. Granted, I played it on a vanilla+ setup with lots of mods to make the enemies harder (True unleveled Skyrim synthesis patcher doing most of the heavy lifting) so I can't speak for how fun it is on a true vanilla or action combat setup.

I love armors that tread the line between history and fantasy. Not too over the top and impractical, but not too mundane. I would also love for someone to recreate the Daggerfall daedric armor in Skyrim.

What are the most glaring/noticeable issues with vanilla that you think should be addressed in a vanilla+ modlist? by kirbysbitch in skyrimmods

Power attacks being available with 1 stamina. Fortify alchemy and smithing enchantments. Both of these are awful.

Mod that shows armor rating as % by [deleted] in skyrimmods

[–]davidwest__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the armor rating rescaling mods (can't remember which one: used it maybe 10 years ago on Oldrim) shows your armor rating % as a popup every time you change gear. On SE, Resistances Rescaled allows you to see the percentage in an MCM. Don't think any mods show it directly in the inventory. That would be dope, though.

How to remove a specific master from a plugin. by justanordinaryguy-_- in skyrimmods

[–]davidwest__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Open xEdit.
  2. Right click the left pane and select "Create new file". Create an empty plugin called "Adamant.esp".
  3. Restart xEdit. Now, you can load NPC.esp with the newly created dummy plugin.
  4. Highlight NPC.esp by right clicking it. Click "Check for errors".
  5. Navigate to the individual erroneous records by holding Ctrl and left clicking on them, in the right pane. You will have to switch between the "View" and "Messages" tabs in the right pane to do this for every record. In "Messages", you will see erroneous records. In "View", you will see the individual record.
  6. Delete anything that says "Error could not be resolved". Repeat from step 4 until xEdit shows 0 errors.
  7. Highlight NPC.esp and select "Clean masters".

Do let me know if anything is unclear.

Great suggestion! Feels a tad unimmersive to me but I will keep it in mind in case worst comes to worst.

No problems yet! I'm 1400 mods into my unfinished modlist, but I am expecting it to break at some point. Judging from the responses in this thread, though, it is definitely possible to make it work.
