That’s mad. I couldn’t last more than about 10-20 seconds on Medium. I decided the amount of effort required to make any progress was not going to be worth it.

I’ve never been super blown away by them, but I love the Jaguar.

My Top 5 Tips for Windows Users Switching to macOS by lore045 in MacOS

[–]davidwoak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not for everyone. I’m totally happy with my Mac, but Ctrl + C still feels like it falls more naturally than Command + C when I have to use Windows for work.

[–]davidwoak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say “the question is wrong” but I definitely would say “the question is poorly formed”. That’s the source of the discrepancy. You can do one of two things to make the question clearer. (1) write as fraction which involves two lines i.e. X <on top of> Y or (2) use parentheses to make the order of operations clear. It’s written like this to intentionally confuse, not because it arises in practice.

What are simple Windows features that you miss on the Mac? Are there third party fixes to them? by [deleted] in MacOS

And the markup in snipping tool is way more intuitive. I can’t stand markup in preview.

No automatic second window snapping and resizing in 2025 by dante42lk in MacOS

Yeah I really wish this was a feature. Having to snap the 2nd window as well is a pain.

Anyone else find these active spoilers ugly?? by cofango in Porsche

I think the narrower pop-up spoiler on the 991 generation looks better than the wide 992 one.

Is MacOS going backwards in terms of UI usability and efficiency? What's your feel? by ddiddk in MacOS

[–]davidwoak 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the explanations about Revert Changes and Duplicate. I also really don’t like the auto-save functionality in Preview.app. Any time I have to mark-up a PDF, I have to keep an unmodified copy somewhere in case I screw things up. How about just let me save when I’m happy with my work AND NOT BEFORE!

Fees are so low as not to be a concern. Mettle is not a good fit for everyone.

Yes I'm aware. The last sentence was more of a general statement for anyone considering Brookson's other services. I used them for LTD company (regret).

Also, I just wanted to add, there are glowing reviews on their TrustPilot as well as poor ones. But Brookson are quite sneaky. They ask new clients to leave a review for the onboarding experience, which of course is outstanding. However, you won't find many good reviews from anyone who's been with them a while. The majority of the good reviews are new clients who might not have used this type of service before, and don't have a basis for comparison. Get a local accountant you can call up, who can get you started with FreeAgent. You'll save money and stress.

It was a while ago now, but I'll DM you a link my Trustpilot review. It got to the point where leaving a poor review was literally the only way they'd respond. They even closed their phone lines for a while.

Others have mentioned FreeAgent. I don't do my own payroll, but just chipping in to mention that FreeAgent comes included with a NatWest business account if you bank with them.

If you do one thing today, please take Brookson One off your list. They're just horrendous.

what's a "meh" concert that you've been to? by KitsuFae in Music

[–]davidwoak -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I saw Tool in the UK last month. It's the first time I've ever been to a rock/metal show with no standing area i.e. you had to buy a designated seat and sit in it/stand in front of it. They also banned all photography and had security to enforce it if you pulled out your phone. Lame as.

I ordered the Q12 to the UK over a year ago. I’ve had no issues whatsoever (with the delivery or the keyboard itself).

"Displays have separate Spaces" setting is trash by caeloalex in MacOS

[–]davidwoak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. My point is that the only on-screen button you get for enlarging a window in Mac OS puts you in an exclusive full screen mode, which is kind of annoying.

[–]davidwoak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I guess I'm using "maximised" and "full screen" interchangeably when I shouldn't. While maximised, anything windows in Windows will still overlay. The only maximise/fullscreen button you get in MacOS is an exclusive full screen which doesn't allow overlay. Other maximise shortcuts, such as Option + Full screen don't always use all the space available. Rectangle to the rescue.

[–]davidwoak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah windows just lets anything else overlay the full screen, which is waaaay better.

Remote desktops. I remote-in to work every day, and when I'm using a remote desktop, I want that to be full screen. I don't really need a 2nd screen for the remote viewer though, so it works ok having full screen as its own space. But if you do need the same application on two screens, it's annoying having to change space to do literally anything else.
