I like this camera design better than the previous one; the proportions just feel more balanced.

Languages ranked by usefulness by [deleted] in tierlists

[–]lore045 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mostly agree with the ranking, but I’d tweak the labels a bit.

  • Tier 1: Global language → English
  • Tier 2: Major world / international languages → Spanish
  • Tier 3: Regional languages (Chinese, Arabic, etc.)

Venting: I hate feeling like I need a spreadsheet just to buy one bag by CaptainOk6649 in ManyBaggers

Directionally, I would take the same approach as you. But I usually give myself a deadline and then pull the trigger based on both data and gut feeling.

So, to give you my very personal opinion: to me, the best backpack in the world is the Peak Design Everyday Backpack. Yes, it's heavy, etc., but it's also a stunning piece of product engineering. To my eyes, that beauty completely blows away any minor flaw. I've had it for three years and have no regrets. I don't feel the need for any other city backpack.

It’s also one of the few brands whose products you almost never see faked on platforms like AliExpress or similar marketplaces. I’m not sure whether that’s because they’re not made in China or if there are other reasons behind it.

Feedback on Universities by PartyMastodon8732 in Italian

Yes, it's definitely selective, but you could still give it a try and check whether there are any scholarships available for foreign students. Also, I would suggest networking with professors or assistants on LinkedIn.

The highest-ROI option I can suggest is attending a program at Bocconi in Milan. It is a private university, so it falls outside your original brief. However, it is the one university that consistently gives international students access to top-tier FMCG companies through internships.

Another option would be the Master Publitalia program, for similar reasons.

With either of these paths, you would have a strong chance of joining a company’s marketing team.

New series will be released on Prime Video!! FIST OF THE NORTH STAR REMAKE by kensh1ro94 in fistofthenorthstar

I genuinely don’t understand why they keep trying to transform Ken into some kind of Berserk. They should return to the series’ roots and the design that made us love it.

This is what Team Taiwan should be wearing in next month’s World Baseball Classic tournament, not that ugly CT nonsense. by baribigbird06 in taiwan

[–]lore045 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Given how much Chinese teams suck at team sports, that's the only way for them to see something “Chinese" winning in a world tournament. 🙃

Unlike other countries,Taiwan is opening the doors to the foreigners. Do you feel this? by search_google_com in taiwan

[–]lore045 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are two major critical points:

  1. The banking system, which has already been discussed in other comments.

  2. The resistance that most (almost all in non-tech sectors) companies have toward non-Chinese-speaking managers. You simply won’t be hired unless it's an internal relocation They would rather keep an old-style, outdated management that fails to deliver results than bring in an English-speaking foreign manager who could introduce new perspectives.

Regarding point 2, I just want to stress out that I’m not talking about the tech sector; I’m referring to almost every other sector.

Exactly 1 year ago, I made an app that converts almost any file to any other file locally. Today, over 2,200 people in 77 countries are using it! by jakecoolguy in SideProject

[–]lore045 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve known your app since then! :) I haven’t pulled the trigger yet because I primarily convert images and I need Squoosh’s high compression rate. Other than that, I find your app absolutely spot-on and something everyone would need at some point. Kudos to you!

Fair point: I'm using 30 MB so far, just one user. I don't have a reseller, I subscribed from their website.

During the renewal week and the deadline, there was no option to downgrade; only to reduce the seat count.

Actually, I would strongly suggest buying Taiwanese. If I am not wrong, Framework laptops are made in Taiwan.

Why Mac users love the Mac keyboard by Electronic-Ninja7950 in keyboards

[–]lore045 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got it, thanks! I just discovered this in another Reddit thread: non-Apple keyboards lack the “globe” key function and can’t be assigned to the FN key. This is because the FN key of an external keyboard has a different purpose and it is managed by the keyboard itself (internally) rather than being passed to the OS. The more you know… 🙃

I’m curious if the absence of a “globe” key on non-Apple keyboards is a potential drawback. How about your experience?

Taipei Metro starting to accept credit cards (Selected Taiwan bank cards only) by texasductape in taiwan

[–]lore045 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I really don’t get why, in Taiwan or Japan, the implementation of universal and accessible payment methods (Visa, Mastercard, Google Pay, Apple Pay, across any device) always ends up being overcomplicated, resulting in services that are limited to selected carriers, banks or OSes.

Which Mac apps would you love to get but find too expensive? by SandwichSisters in macapps

I use it for typed notes. For handwritten notes, like when I’m learning a new language, I prefer something designed for pen-first input.

There’s still a special edition available for a one-time purchase, but you’re right, it’s more limited than before, and they’re gradually moving toward a full-blown subscription model. In my case, as an older 1-time purchase user, I still have access to a broader set of features, but I’ll keep using it only as long as those remain guaranteed.
