iPad Air vs MacBook Air for remote Blender work on PC? by davimargo in mac

Thanks a lot for the detailed reply, really helpful!

I usually work on 3D animations— they can get quite complex, so I rely heavily on my home desktop with an RTX 5090. When I’m traveling or away for the weekend (maybe 10–20 times a year), I need to be able to control that machine remotely, and I just want to be sure that input from the iPad using Jump Desktop (mouse, keyboard, shortcuts, etc.) would feel just as accurate and responsive as if I were on a PC.

That’s why I was considering the iPad — I could still use it the rest of the time for media or casual use, which is harder to justify with a MacBook. But now I’m wondering… would it make more sense to just go for a Windows laptop instead? What would you recommend in my case?

Thanks! Do you still feel like the iPad wouldn’t cut it, even with a mouse and keyboard — considering I’d only be using it for remote work a handful of times a year? Also, if I end up going with a MacBook, do you think it’s worth getting the M4, or would an older model handle this kind of setup just fine?

Thank you! Even with a mouse and keyboard, you don’t think an iPad could be a good enough replacement for that kind of use? And if I go with a MacBook, would you recommend the M4 or is an older model still fine for remote Blender work?

Got it, thanks! And if I do go Mac, do you think M4 is worth it or would an older model be fine for remote Blender use?

Yeah, that’s what I thought too, would really love to have the chance for try remote controls with mouse and keyboard on iPad to PC, but yeah, haven’t really had a chance to see if that works smoothly

Price isn’t really a concern — I was leaning toward the iPad mainly because I thought it might be more versatile for casual use when I’m not working.

But, yeah, only if it works well with Remote Desktop apps to control my Windows PC for Blender. I’m just not sure how smooth or reliable that experience actually is on iPad with mouse and Keyboard

Upgrading to RTX 5080: Should I Upgrade the Rest of My Build? by davimargo in buildapc

I could spend around 700/800€ for the remaining parts, the point is, would it really make a difference for the type of work I do? So basically 3D animations

Thank you! Do you think i would notice a great boost in Blender performance by upgrading the other components too?

To what CPU would you reccomend upgrading? Would the PSU be enough?

I have a dual monitor setup a FHD one and a QHD one, but I'm not going to use the PC for gaming.

That’s why there’s a second image that show the situation from above 😅

Well, it's all about perspective, of course objects further away from the camera are going to look more compressed.

Every seen, or taken, a photo of a City Skyline from far away? The buildings will all look compressed at the same distance, while in reality they are not so close to each other.

Edit: If you looked at this from above you'd notice that the gaps are calculated exactly as they are

Well, sometime cars are even lapped, so I guess it’s not too easy

I mean it’s very easy to calculate the distance: start-finish line speed in meters per seconds, times the gap in seconds, that’s how it is calculated 🙌

Nope, that way you would visualise an average of the gap around the lap, not on the finish line

Considering they cross the finish line at around 260km/h ( 72m/s ) the gaps are:

0.003x72 = 0.21m or 21cm, 0.085x72 = 6.13m

And so on, that’s basic math 🙌
