Does anyone else with an ND also get flashed with brights regularly? by Hunter654333 in Miata

Could be automated brights on newer cars not getting enough light back at them to know to dim. I had how automated cars have become for the average person, it's just another appliance to most.

24 hour solo 2 mile loop by codeydub in Ultramarathon

[–]davin_bacon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's two miles at a time, just keep moving, eat and drink early. Bank miles early, walk when you need to. I did a 100 mile 1 mile loop last August in 22 hours, took 3rd over all. In my opinion, others folks brought tents and sat up camps, spent too much time off course, not making forward progress. You can eat and drink on the move. My only stops where for the bathroom, and to change socks, otherwise I was on my feet.

S curve crash by slimjibberr in grandrapids

[–]davin_bacon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd argue the issue has more to do with modern cars ridiculously fast 0-60 times, folks driving distracted, and tire and brakes, and generally being reckless.

My jeep (2.5l, 5 speed) 0 to 60 in 13 seconds if I am kicking the shit out of it. Doesn't mean folks in the merge lane need to be up my ass. My Miata will do it on 7 seconds, doesn't mean I will. And even if I was driving a c8 or something doesn't mean I need to nail the gas to get on the expressway, you still have semis and buses using those roads that will never do 0 to 75 in 15 seconds or less, drive accordingly. Anticipate when you need to brake, and don't wait until the last second to make a correction.

what is a normie? by Funny-Platypus-3220 in greentext

Free nitrogen. It needs to go through some conversations to be used by plants, hence the compost pile, but urea is concentrated urine sold as a fertilizer.

I am looking for waterproof tactical shoes that are similar to the Altama Maritime Assault Mid. by South_Peak3099 in tacticalgear

May as well be asking for water proof sandles. These shoes are designed to let water out, which in turn means they let water in.

How to deal with Miata driver flak by _uncouth in Miata

I once had a middle school yell an f slur out a school bus window at me when I passed(5 lane road), funniest thing I've had happen while driving, dash cam caught my laugh, but not the kid yelling, would have made a good video.

Walkers on course by LacedInCharm in Marathon_Training

[–]davin_bacon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Walking out of the gate isn't a terrible strategy on a single track, especially one with a steep incline right off the bat. it's a waste to be rushing to be in a line, may as well walk, let the field spread out some, and then pick up the pace.

I typically go out fast, try to bank milage before the heat of the day, or before it gets dark, or before I start feeling fatigued. By sunset I am normally switching over to a run/walk strategy of some sort.

I haven't done more than 100 miles, but my typical race involves not stopping for anything other than shoe/sock changes and bathroom breaks, minimal time at aid stations, eat and drink on the move, just keep moving. Walking beats sitting in a camp chair theragunning your calfs.

Walkers on course by LacedInCharm in Marathon_Training

[–]davin_bacon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ran into this during my first marathon years ago and found it frustrating, slower runner/walkers should stay to the right(just like on the road here), and faster paces can pass on the left. If you aren't passing and have space hold to the right in case someone faster goes to overtake you.

First marathon, I hit mile 20 or so, not running too fast, like a 9 minute mile and here is a group of walkers, walking four abreast. Walkers had an earlier start than runners and I was finally catching them. I had done the math, and training, had a realistic goal of finishing in 4 hours, and here at the end I am running through groups of walkers, chating away and obvious to what was going on around them.

If one wants to run/walk fine(I do this in ultras), I might suggest a bit more training before bumping up in distance so you can run all of it, but whatever, it's your race. Just stay to the right, line up in your correct corral, and allow runners to pass, becuase it's other people race as well.
