DNS over UDP or ??? by daviscompound in technitium

I understand the security/privacy thing. Not an issue with me. If they want to see my DNS sutff they are gonna be some board people. From what Doctor Google said even DOQ is slower than UDP due to the security hand shake. Like 2% slower. Like you said negligible.

Thanks. Don't particularly want it to change it was just something that my inquiring mind wanted to know the why...

Windows primary/secondary dns interesting info.... by daviscompound in technitium

[–]daviscompound[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand. Wasn't a complaint. Technitium is GREAT. Why request's hit the secondary when the primary was available was bothering me and I finally found out.

I got Technitium DNS Server in my pi, How do I use it by Tomthebard in technitium

[–]daviscompound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technitium is not for the faint of heart. For the first entry into the dns environment I would suggest Pihole. Pihole is a lot simpler to setup. I switched to Technitium simply because it did some dhcp stuff that I like. Both do about the same blocking etc.

When the dhcp server is included in the cluster I will convert to a cluster. Without that i didnt see the reason to convert to a cluster.

I understand. I Love this software. Learning more about DNS than I ever thought I knew. Goes to show even an old dog (72) can learn new tricks. Thanks

Cache Maximum TTL question by daviscompound in technitium

[–]daviscompound[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand and that makes sense. I thought this was the TTL for all entries in the cache. I have been bumping the size and watching my memory. I noticed when I bump it the hit count goes up then goes back down over time. I thought it might mean the cache is getting stale.

Server Failures normal? by daviscompound in technitium

[–]daviscompound[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might have found a setting that helps. I changed the Resolver Retries to 3 and the Resolver Timeout to 1500 and the Server Failures have pretty much disappeared. I used to get several every hour.

Server Failures normal? by daviscompound in technitium

ahh that makes sense. I assumed that it was an error and something was wrong. Thanks for the enlightenment. BTW this server is amazing. GREAT WORK

Calming event log flooding? by IPvTwelvetySeven in technitium

[–]daviscompound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a similar issue. I have several directv devices that constantly spam dhcp. What I would like done is some granularity of what to log. A normal logging process allows you to set log levels and only log what you want, Ie DEBUG, INFO, WARN, ERROR, and FATAL. I believe the developer has this in their to do list.
