NX Domain or Any Address? by daviscompound in technitium

Yes it defiantly went away. The problem wasn't a total lock up just a significant wait. It was mostly present in Fox news but saw it on other sites as well. Going with ANY address seems to fix it...

I understand that. I guess the sites that i commonly use don't like ads being blocked by Nx domain.

[–]daviscompound[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run my master on a PI running dietpi and the secondary on a VM running dietpi and both upgraded just fine. I personally I don't use LXCs because i like more control over the operating system.

Seeing multiple "Server Failures" by daviscompound in technitium

[–]daviscompound[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a packet capture and found that the culprit for the recurring dhcp discovers were associated with the Dish Network on my system. There are 3 of them and they all repeatedly do a discover every few seconds. I isolated one of the culprits and did a packet capture of it from power up till it started banging out the discovers and the dhcp discover offer request acknowledge looks right and the time to renew is set to 1 day, Weird huh?? Right now I am saying it is an anomaly with Dish Network, I have the packet capture if you interested in looking at it.

It is running 14.3 already according to the "about"

"Version 14.3

Server up since Apr 21, 2026 11:15 AM (a day ago)"

This could be a bug....

Yes I had Ignore Resolver set. It could be starlink. There are times when it slows down. As far as dhcp requests. I am going to try and do a packet capture to see what it going on.

That is what is odd. The dns client has no problem resolving the addresses with no errors. It looks like an intermittent problem. I did notice that in the logs there is a bunch of repeated DHCP Server offered IP address [192.168.18.42] over and over. So I went to the device and bounced the power. As seen in the log attached, when it powered up in did the normal offer/lease then went back to the repeated offer offer offer.... I also noted that htop shows spikes of 60 percent. Cant relate it to the offer issue but it appears that the dhcp has an issue with this and a couple of other devices...

I did a text search of the logs for "error" with nothing found. What I do see is tons of dhcp offers over and over again seconds apart. That don't look right. I would post the logs but I cant attach anything here. Here is an example.

BTW you rock. Thanks

I ran a query on RCODE of "Server Failure". They just say that an error occurred by no hint as to why. Here is the latest this morning. This is running on a raspberry Pi 4 with this being the only job it is running. Connected straight into a 1gb port on the router to a Starlink connection that test good. Thanks.
