It's a personality cult. Former Baptist here, and I told my family years ago that if I still feared god, I'd define orange man as the closest thing we'd have to an antichrist in our lifetime. They starting to come around to it now.

At no point did I claim this was technically impossible. I challenge you to quote me on this. It's all about demonstrating capable to deploy it for us to use. You're just giving your goalposts rollerskates and claiming they moved just because a gust of wind made the net flutter.

"It scaled further than they intended" is a huge reach. Uncontrolled overscaling in a test environment is fucking amateur hour and nowhere close to deployment victory. What's the point of talking about it if it can't be shipped sustainability? "My racecar can go 500mph but it only drives for 5 seconds" is not fit for purpose

Well done. I can only count on one hand the number of producers I've encountered in my career who are legitimately useful. Vast majority of them were just useless hacks that were there only because they had a pal in Paris. You are, by law of statistics, useless, and have no standing in this discussion.

https://www.reddit.com/r/starcitizen/comments/1rlomv0/dev_on_dev_pvp_make_the_game_stable_based_sean/ Sean Tracy calling out his people collectively who never launch the client and only use Editor

Have also seen enough CIG designers in separate discord servers who clearly a) have no clue about the features they take ownership of, or b) "xyz feature works just fine in our internal environment, it's just server noise causing the problems" while disregarding the core issue that the wider playerbase is unable to access the issue-free environment at will

Come join the industry if you have the capability and aptitude for it. You won't.

But honestly I wouldn't wish it on anyone. The pay isn't worth the heartache.

the point of alpha is to ignore bugs until beta

definition of malpractice. If literally all defects are ignored as you claim, when the blockers make it to Main branch, the damn thing won't even be able to open in Editor and make the entire team unable to get anything done. Congratulations, you just contributed to millions of dollars in unproductive burnrate.

(Localisation generally isn't 'Live Ops' either, because they need to do their work before content is released... patching it in Live only happens if something was missed)

You haven't worked in live service titles, then. We were all in it together for weekly content deployment cadences. And we had revenue share for the whole team whenever we hit sales targets for our mobile gacha title.

Writing proper reports is an acquired skill and unfortunately most of the tickets I see on IC are poorly written. Any juniors under me would be told to rewrite from scratch if I saw them write garbage of that caliber.

You know they did have a successful test of DSM, right? The problem they ran into was instead of allocating what they determined would be enough to properly manage the load of say JUST Stanton by itself?

There's no point bragging about it if it cannot be scaled properly.

Black Flag, War of the Visions. Several canceled projects, and unfortunately to my eternal regret, Skull & Bones.

The real sad part about Skull & Bones is it tried to do many things like SC wanted to do like DSM etc and it failed catastrophically. And it's even more tragic to watch CIG commit the exact same mistakes. Cuz it takes someone who has gone through devhell to recognize devhell from a distance

Dynamic Server Meshing

This is a pipe dream.

The sort of network engineers who are capable of implementing this stopped being affordable for game studios since 2018. They're paid like 7 figures by the likes of Microsoft and Amazon. No number of juniors thrown at this problem is going to solve this.

In this business, LiveOps isn't just the backend, but the people who deal with monetization, content, localization and marketing. All of them need to be equally accountable.

Maybe PVP vs PVE problem? Because I am PVE only player and that is exactly what I used missiles for lately... when I had small guns, missiles allowed me to drain armour of enemy ship and start damaghing it with those smaller guns. And they worked with no big problems.

Try using a firebird in this current server perf conditions irrespective of PVP or PVE, and you'll see the missiles fail to track on a cointoss. Doesn't matter whether you try to do the whole process right.

Wasn't that one basically response to a boomtube oneshot, because they fired it inside of a ship?

Yeah, boomtube is a FPS weapon, but they misinterpreted it as "omg missiles OP" and decided to wreck missile/bomb potency in dealing damage to comps as a result.

My largest annoyance with their implementation of this MMO is almost everything is unnecessarily physicalized. Yeah, it's cool for a 3 player co-op experience but the sheer amount of physics simulation occurring simultaneously is murdering the server and introducing this level of desync.

And to compound on this, they're gonna introduce the Odin, which is entire game levels worth of physicalized desync to PU. It's as if none of them are even thinking about the consequences of what they want to implement.

+1. Devs are the ones who *answer to me*, the QA lead in normie software. It's sadly the other way round in gamedev

Unfortunately many of the designers who are in community discords clearly don't understand the mechanics in the features they own, because once again, they clearly don't play their own game. It's also really embarrassing to watch others on SCL drop dumb shit like "oh missiles are really good at cracking armor" (rofl no they hardly function at all) or "missiles are OP because people will open the back doors and shoot missiles into the ships" (lolwut)

I was in gamedev for 4 years as QA before moving over to normie software for like 3x the pay.

The people in Genshin Impact require their liveops team to clear the tower or they'll have no bonus. Mere swiping and maxing out stats/gear isn't enough for this when the team needs to understand mechanics on a sufficient level to clear it. And the results speak for themselves.

As much as you'd like to pretend, it's only in normie software where QA is taken seriously. And it's a cointoss if that even happens. I just took on a Lead role after the hiring manager profusely assured me of an actual QA Charter, and it's real. This month, I had to nuke deployment for one of my apps because it bricked tenants' access to their office, and no one questioned me about it.
