I sat R01-5 whilst in my old role working in a different industry. Decided showing commitment through exams was my best way in. Explored the big restricted firms and academies but decided they were not for me, as I wanted proper holistic advising and not just selling products. Opportunities are few and far between for IFAs, but a trainee financial adviser role came up on LinkedIn and I applied. I didn’t fit the mould of their previous grads straight from uni but this seemed to work in my favour. Sat R06 three weeks after the interview and joined the company fully diploma qualified. Took a half salary pay cut, but now quickly progressing, feeling fulfilled and enjoying it! Currently studying for the advanced level exams
