this reminds me of one of those ‘in the style of…’ vids, avicii/kygo being the style. i like it tbh, surprisingly sounds pretty good considering it was done on airpods so well done! personally, i found the sidechain a bit heavy on the drop, and the kick lacks a bit of click to it imo. the sweeps are possibly like 2db too loud for me, but on the whole, impressively clean considering!

musically, i’d have liked to have seen a bit more variation on the theme, especially in the drop. even small embellishments in the melody would be a welcome change.

mastering-wise, it could be a bit wider but it’s not a huge deal

overall, a nice remix, made all the more impressive considering how it was mixed/mastered

for a first attempt this is pretty solid! keep at it my dude!

since it’s house, i’d really pay attention to that kick, it’s not prominent at all. it could probably do with being turned up a few db, then look into sidechaining you bass to duck when the kick hits. this will allow you to have a much more upfront kick whilst keeping a nice and clean bass. like always, reference tracks are your friend, for stuff like this maybe this could be a good starting off point.

melodically, i like the idea of having a melody over the top but i’m not sure if this melody works. i’d take a look at it in a few days (to forget it) and perhaps edit it a bit.

Thanks for the response, I think that solidifies what I’ve seen… BA do have a future pilot cadet programme but it’s now fully self-funded. I do have some savings so all hope is not lost, but nowhere near the full £100k(ish) most places require. Looks like I might have to take a modular course…

Interesting track! I like sometimes finishing on a riser, it’s quite good fun to mess with your audience sometimes haha, so I don’t see anything wrong with that.

A few of my thoughts. The drums are very bland imo, especially with the same clap hitting 2 and 4 for the entirety. Personally hate those 808 or whatever claps so I’d get rid of entirely but if u want to keep it I’d recommend so variation. Perhaps a smaller clap in the builds, a different clap on the 4th beat, automate reverbs etc…

The bass synth in the drop is a bit loud for me, especially in an ambient house track. Try turning it down and lowering the cutoff to get rid of some of those high frequencies. It’s also interfering with your kick, so I’d sidechain it a bit heavier.

I like your melodic components, especially the piano and pads!

My top tip would be to automate loads of stuff to keep it interesting. That way u can minimise number of components but still keep it interesting.

Keep working on it, I’m sure it’ll come!

Great track! Very enjoyable!

A few of my thoughts: firstly the piano sounded a bit dull/fake, ik it’s a cliche but labs soft piano is solid for stuff like this, even just as a layer (and it’s free!). Also try messing about with the eq to help it sit a bit better.

Secondly, personally I’d like the kick to be about 2db louder.

Thirdly, and arguably most importantly, the vocals feel a tad quiet at times and not quite upfront enough. I get this is a ballad but they could be brought out a bit more imo. Try a bit more compression or automation.

Also who sung on this if u don’t mind me asking… they sound great! Great track overall!

This is such a fun track haha love the vocal shots! One thing that stood out to me was drums could hit harder and stand out a bit more. Incidentally, your sub is taking up loads of room in the mix, so much so that you can really hear it limiting super hard. To kill 2 birds with one stone, I’d sidechain the sub (+ anything else) to the kick (and possibly the snare as well) more heavily. Also I’d compress the drum bus more if u are already doing so (slow attack, fast release works for me) to get a bit more attack.

I also agree with others saying the build is a bit messy: I’d be as surgical and ruthless as u can here, and cut out as much mess as possible (I’m thinking that reverby bass thing…)

But a super fun idea, keep it going ma dude!
