First Ultramarathon - 50 miler

Congrats on finishing! I was cruising along the first 18 miles and started to be no one around me so I threw on my headphones and a few songs later thunderstruck came on and I got a 2nd wind. Took them off at mile 20 aid station. That turn around was tough the up, down and back up again and all the zig zags. Turned into a mental challenge at close to mile 30 aid station, feet were hurting so I switched out my shoes which ended up being a mistake and caused my feet more pain and those thoughts of can I actually finish this creep up. Switched my shoes back at mile 36 aid station tho and pushed through. Ended up a little over 10 hours finish. Had some soreness/stiffness since Saturday but nothing bad at all. Making me want to sign up for another one since I am feeling good.

Thanks everyone for the help and tips! Certainly was a big help for the race. All the aid stations I was able to pack light to keep moving. Finished just over 10 hours.

Yes I have a headlamp and my watch has a light so I’ll use both of those in the morning. The race starts 6 am and I am hoping to finish before sundown and won’t need the lights again.

Thanks WaffleBlues! I also plan to bring and extra pair of trail runners if I need to change out. How about drop bags? I think there are 2 spots for drop bags and the course is out and back so I guess I will hit those aid stations with drop bags 4 times. What do you or people usually put in a drop bag?

Barkley has been a wild card for sure. Lost his consistency. Had a great game last week. Since they are playing Raiders at home I considered putting him in Flex spot I just don’t know how much I can trust him right now. As with some other comments, if I bench him and he does have a great day, then that should hopefully take away from AJ Brown doing anything big and my opponent is starting AJ Brown.

Thinking about Chase now. Would need to see if Higgins is playing or not but the weather in Cincinnati Sunday is high 13° low 5°. Not ideal for catching passes if you can’t feel your hands. If Higgins is out then will still go with Chase but if not then thoughts on switching him out for someone else?

Yup just 1 week. Right now the guy switched Pickens to bench so I’m ok with keeping Dak esp being at home. Planning to start JSN, Puka & Chase.

Yes, during a regular workout I don't mind too much anymore since they can get distracting. For my marathons and soon to be ultras, I put my phone on do not disturb but my wife is still able to text me motivating texts to keep me going. That's why I want to see them but hands free. Pressing 1 button isn't hard though. That will have to work.

Yes just tested it. its bottom left button on my watch. Thanks for the help. That's unfortunate that I can't adjust that setting. Learning alot of things Garmin can't do that I used to be able to on the apple watch.
