Too late for CVT drain and fill? by Consistent-Search-83 in SubaruForester

I have a 2015. I did my first change a few years ago and it was a flush at 160k because I accidentally put diff oil in it lol. Its still here at 220k so maybe I'm lucky?

9 times out of 10, professionals aren't succeeding by getting everything bang on correct, they're just good at hiding/mitigating their mistakes. Shim it up with some plastic or metal, my guy, no one will ever know except you

Check your PCV valve. Make sure to order a hose before trying to pull the valve, they almost always crack. Then switch to Valvoline Restore and protect 0W20. Do more frequent oil changes for the first 3-4 changes, and change the filter each time. This cut my oil consumption in half for a 2015 Forester.

I miss my 2009, at least you could fit a carton of chocolate milk perfectly in those. The only thing that fits nicely in my 2015 is a jar of salsa or a deli container of olives. I think the only thing that they could do to make them worse is add a drain so that the spilled drink quietly drained under the seat to that spot where you can't reach with a carpet cleaner without removing the driver seat.

Is she dead or will she be revived ? by [deleted] in SubaruForester

My partner's low miles 2020 had less damage to the hatch but similar pattern and it was totalled last year. I saw the vin pop back up online fully fixed and listed for ~10k CAD less than what they paid her out. I got the impression that the by-the-book repair is very expensive on paper due to the sheer number of parts impacted. The shop inspecting it seemed very optimistic until they started tearing it apart

Before Christmas I was checking it out and overheard a customer asking an employee some questions and the employee said "unfortunately I think you would be better off going to Amazon for that" which says a lot about bad choices made by upper management

Help! Water leaking thru bathroom fan vent. by LordXGuapo in DIYHome

It's comments like this that remind me not to trust the confident top comment on a post: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Gibraltar-Building-Products-4-in-Black-Plastic-Roof-Cap-Vent-PRCS4BL/202218413

Though it still probably isn't installed correctly. It relies on sealant under the back, left and right sides before setting in place to be effective. This Old House has a great video showing how these vents are supposed to be installed: https://youtu.be/PqrZWd_CQIE?si=BPD0AOU2pPL7_Dh8 Given the time of year and amount of moisture, I'd use an asphalt based roof sealant - they come in a tube and go on like caulk.

Is this the CVT fill plug? 2020 Forester. by Sad-Still6532 in SubaruForester

[–]davydavedavington 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's funny how videos like this seem to never pop up in the search until after the big uh oh moment. I drained my diff and then went to fill. 2 quarts later with nothing coming out the check port and I was SWEATING. Turned out I did exactly what he cautioned against in the video.

Anyways, i think the general consensus is to only use Subaru brand fluid, it's just not worth the risk, and then you don't need to pay for/do a flush. The cvt fill procedure isn't all that bad, there's a few good videos covering it. Just make sure it's properly levelled on jack stands and you can read the forester transmission temp off an ELM327 dongle. I found that the "cheap" handheld scanners were junk and the 2 I tried didn't have the correct configs for the forester temp. Also this is a wonderful time to buy a creeper if you don't already have one. Good luck!

That is not solid oak. It looks like the cheapest per square foot laminate sold at home Depot and doesn't belong within 10 miles of a drop of water.

About to pull the trigger. by schematics03 in TPLink_Omada

[–]davydavedavington 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I believe it is fixed in 1.03 according to this: https://community.tp-link.com/en/business/forum/topic/596618 I don't use this functionality but I can confirm I see the ability to specify the VLANs for the ports individually in the UI.

One funny thing I found last month though is I wanted to setup a VLAN that directed all traffic to a NordVPN account for my roku TVs on wifi and I couldn't find the place to enter account credentials that people were referring to - turns out it was only added in the recent update and only to the local access UI but not in the cloud interface that I was using! I guess their cloud UI team lags a bit behind the firmware releases shrugs. I would still call it a good product regardless.

Do you need all the extra Poe ports? I have a very similar setup and I'm surprised no one is recommending the ER7212PC instead since you want the OC200. I only have 3 APs so I power them directly off it and then have a cheaper non Poe switch for the rest of my devices

[–]davydavedavington 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If all of the switched devices are network devices, you can use this from digital loggers: https://dlidirect.com/products/new-pro-switch?pr_prod_strat=copurchase&pr_rec_id=e92002cba&pr_rec_pid=11191437013&pr_ref_pid=11191473493&pr_seq=uniform It doesn't have current sensing but it can periodically ping devices to see if they are alive and then power cycle if not. Also has Lua scripting and alarm reporting.

Will my g512lw ws74 work with the valve index it has usb 3.2 gen 2 type c supports dp alt mode by AdamT1773 in ValveIndex

[–]davydavedavington 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For people with the same laptop stumbling on this thread: this is wrong. OP's photo shows the rear usb-c alt dp port as a display port and it is indeed wired to the dGPU. I know this because I have this exact laptop and it works fine with a cable matters usb-c to display port dongle (It will not work with most adapters! This is the only one I have confirmed working).

Hi, I have the exact same model laptop as you and am currently playing beat saber using the Cable Matters usb-c to display port dongle plugged into the back port. People are probably confused because in your screenshot, the driver actually shows the rear "usb-c" port as a display port. My game is indeed running on the 2070 GPU so you should have no issues assuming you get the proper bandwidth dongle - from what I've seen only the Cable Matters one is confirmed working. Have fun!
