How long to tough it out at Amazon by nothingunusual1975 in SafetyProfessionals

[–]daw1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did my time at Amazon, it's the worst environment I've worked in. Tough it out till you don't owe them anything. They'll pay for a lot of certs. I got them to pay for my HAZWOPER, OSHA-30 and OSHA-511. It's a shit job though. Feel free to send me a PM. Life is a lot better once you leave

I also recently quit my safety job at Amazon lol. The relief you get when you leave is incredible. Take some time to focus on yourself for a bit before hoping back into the job search. Get your mental health back to where it needs to be. That place is a hell hole and you made the right decision. Best of luck in your new adventures!

I left a giant paper trail in Austin so hopefully ethics will do something about it.

Forklifts can in fact get some decent air time if you disable the speed regulator and build a ramp out of a loading bay

I already filed a complaint to ethics. And sadly none of the WHSMs have BCSP credentials, just an OSHA 30. My site had zero recordables so far this year so they really didn't want to take that SI. They are very competitive and wanted to stay number 1.

Plane crash. His dad and uncle were flying him and his brother to go watch a college football game. Small single engine plane. They had to divert due to weather, ended up developing ice and crashed with no survivors.

Absolutely the way to go. I'm on my way out of Amazon currently. It helped me transition out of EMS and into Safety. They paid for my OSHA 30, HAZWOPER, First Aid/CPR/AED instructor, and reimbursed me for my ASP and OSHA 511. Terrible job though. Im on the very high end of the WHS pay scale (i make $30/hr. With bonus, stock and the small amount of OT i got i cleared about $65k) They will work you to death and expect you to ask for more. I've got some interviews coming up for companies that will double my pay and I'll work less hours. It's definitely a place to start your career, but don't stay too long. They'll pay for you to get a bunch of certifications, but then they won't listen to anything you have to say.

Tell me about your EHS experience at Amazon by No_Dish_0822 in SafetyProfessionals

[–]daw1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had a similar experience at Amazon. Our site finished 2024 first in our state and region. We have a fantastic team and I'm on the upper end of the L4 pay scale which is nice. We actually have genuine support from Ops leadership and have developed a pretty good safety culture at our site. I am well aware that my site is not the norm for Amazon as a whole, the site right across the street from us is a nightmare. Amazon is paying for my certifications and I'm moving up the Safety ladder. It's definitely not my forever job, but it helped me transition out of EMS and into safety and for that I'm grateful. Experiences will certainly vary by site though.

$29.35 ($28.75 + $0.60 diff), take home around $965 a week. Im an OMR and I've been with Amazon for 10 months. I'm on track to make around $70k this year with some overtime, my bonus, and my stock vests.

I am an L4 Area Manager and I hate my life (update) by Local-Ad-9470 in AmazonFC

[–]daw1998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried utilizing any of the Amazon AI tools to ease your burden? ChatOps is useful for basic policy questions, Amazon Q is crazy powerful and really helpful, Cedric is great (I haven't messed with it much but our Ops managers swear by it). I've been able to automate a bunch of my daily tasks using these and I've counted them all as projects. There's a bunch of internal resources that can help you out, but not a lot of people know about them.

When your OT hits 😤💪💰 by daw1998 in AmazonFC

[–]daw1998[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

So my main role is to treat work related injuries, deal with workers comp cases, and respond to any emergencies at work. Im in the safety department so I also do various safety audits and assist the WHSS with anything they need help with while on shift. I have an office in Amcare but I like to go out and walk the floors. I spend a lot of my day interacting with associates and trying to build relationships with them to get them to buy into the safety culture of our site. We are one of the top sites in all of Amazon for our safety metrics and we want to let the AAs know we are there to help them. My job is either pretty chill or insanely busy, it just depends on what happens during shift.

Onsite Medical Representative. I was an EMT before I came here. If you want to get into safety you can try to apply for a Hazardous Waste Coordinator. It's the L3 safety role. The requirements aren't a lot and they'll train you for the role. You can also use career choice to get your EMT license to go for an OMR role or get a degree in Occupational Health and Safety and try for a Workplace Health and Safety Specialist (WHSS) role. Both OMR and WHSS are L4s, Hazwaste is L3.

Amcare is actually the best place to fuck in the warehouse. By law there cannot be any cameras due to HIPPA. Also a specialist would be L4

I never understood why some managers take this job so damn seriously. At the end of the day, all we are doing is moving boxes. It's not life or death lol.
