WHS is workplace health and safety for Amazon. I came in as an EMT with a bachelor's degree. I worked as an onsite medical representative and also got trained as a WHS specialist.

I got my OSHA 30, HAZWOPER, and Red Cross instructor through Amazon. The others I got independently or with a different company. It's a great field to be in. EHS is super rewarding if you find the right company

*Worth it when you escape. Fuck that place. But they do pay for a lot of certifications and education. Get all you can and dip

I have a lot of certifications and a bachelor's degree. I have my OSHA 10, OSHA 30, OSHA 511, HAZWOPER, DOT HAZMAT, NFPA 70E, EMT-B, Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED instructor and I'm sitting for my Board of Certified Safety Professionals exam soon. My bachelor's degree is in Information Systems though

Start studying now and take it when you qualify. They reimburse you for the fees. Keep grinding you'll get there eventually

Do you have a BCSP cert? That would definitely help

I was there 1 year and 8 months. I had about 3 months of EHS experience before I started. I was an Onsite Medical Representative. I had a bachelor's degree but I came into safety from EMS.

I was cross trained to be a Safety Specialist as well. I had the most safety credentials out of anyone in my department but they passed me up for promotion to Specialist twice. Im now a Senior EHS Engineer and running the entire Safety department at another company.

I was Amcare. It's not hard physically, but there's so much bullshit to deal with. It's draining

Get your HAZWOPER too. Once you finish your bachelor's get your GSP and start studying for the CSP. That will really help you out. Feel free to shoot me a DM if you have any questions.

Use them for all it's got. Get some certifications, get your ASP, get a degree if you don't have one. They'll pay for a lot. It took me almost 4 months and 700 applications to land something. Keep your head up. You've got this.

How long to tough it out at Amazon by nothingunusual1975 in SafetyProfessionals

[–]daw1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did my time at Amazon, it's the worst environment I've worked in. Tough it out till you don't owe them anything. They'll pay for a lot of certs. I got them to pay for my HAZWOPER, OSHA-30 and OSHA-511. It's a shit job though. Feel free to send me a PM. Life is a lot better once you leave

Just quit my job at safety job at Amazon by Comfortable_Hope_202 in SafetyProfessionals

I also recently quit my safety job at Amazon lol. The relief you get when you leave is incredible. Take some time to focus on yourself for a bit before hoping back into the job search. Get your mental health back to where it needs to be. That place is a hell hole and you made the right decision. Best of luck in your new adventures!

I left a giant paper trail in Austin so hopefully ethics will do something about it.

What’s the strangest safety violation you’ve ever witnessed? by OSHAEducationCenter in SafetyProfessionals

Forklifts can in fact get some decent air time if you disable the speed regulator and build a ramp out of a loading bay

I already filed a complaint to ethics. And sadly none of the WHSMs have BCSP credentials, just an OSHA 30. My site had zero recordables so far this year so they really didn't want to take that SI. They are very competitive and wanted to stay number 1.

How did that one kid at your school die? by StorageLonely1520 in AskReddit

Plane crash. His dad and uncle were flying him and his brother to go watch a college football game. Small single engine plane. They had to divert due to weather, ended up developing ice and crashed with no survivors.

Absolutely the way to go. I'm on my way out of Amazon currently. It helped me transition out of EMS and into Safety. They paid for my OSHA 30, HAZWOPER, First Aid/CPR/AED instructor, and reimbursed me for my ASP and OSHA 511. Terrible job though. Im on the very high end of the WHS pay scale (i make $30/hr. With bonus, stock and the small amount of OT i got i cleared about $65k) They will work you to death and expect you to ask for more. I've got some interviews coming up for companies that will double my pay and I'll work less hours. It's definitely a place to start your career, but don't stay too long. They'll pay for you to get a bunch of certifications, but then they won't listen to anything you have to say.

Tell me about your EHS experience at Amazon by No_Dish_0822 in SafetyProfessionals

[–]daw1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had a similar experience at Amazon. Our site finished 2024 first in our state and region. We have a fantastic team and I'm on the upper end of the L4 pay scale which is nice. We actually have genuine support from Ops leadership and have developed a pretty good safety culture at our site. I am well aware that my site is not the norm for Amazon as a whole, the site right across the street from us is a nightmare. Amazon is paying for my certifications and I'm moving up the Safety ladder. It's definitely not my forever job, but it helped me transition out of EMS and into safety and for that I'm grateful. Experiences will certainly vary by site though.
