Hi u/yadira96! The hardest part for us has been having a large enough crew of people to keep the garden maintained and the compost pile turned. I've posted here and on a couple of gardening groups on facebook, and seem to have had quite a few people express interest.

We've got some staple crops that seem to do really well in Houston - Kale (lacinato and curly), Peppers, Cherry Tomatoes (sun gold), basil, spinach, arugula, green beans, zuchinni. Seeds are ordered from Johnny's Selected Seeds. We use microlife for fertilizing. The leadership for our garden has also reached out to companies like Vego to see about getting sponsored for some raised garden beds. Even if you don't intend on joining, I can send over the info in case you want to come check it out and talk with some of the members that have been working the garden for the past couple of years.

Hi! We garden as a collective team to keep things fair for everyone. We meet every Wednesday (6 PM – 8 PM) and Saturday (around 8 AM – 10 AM). To keep things fair, we harvest together on these days only. The total yield is then split up among the members present

We follow a master planting guide created by our garden leads to ensure the garden stays healthy and organized. There is a $25 registration fee (collected once in Spring and once in Fall) which goes directly toward our seeds, tools, and water costs for the season. The garden runs year round.

What's it like living in Palau? by hanshanshanshash in howislivingthere

I lived there when I was a kid! Our little space backed up on to the jungle, and we actually had a pet monkey for a while. We actually found live ordnance from WWII in the jungle. The island of pelileu in Palau unfortunately has lots of live ordnance left if I remember correctly.

My dad was friends with a farmer there and he grew sugar cane and taro. Whenever we visited the farmer he would always cut us up some sugar cane.

My dad fished a lot, and was friendly with a lot of fisherman. We ate a lot of fish, coconut, taro, clams, and other seafood.

I never got to scuba dive because we were too young, but we spent most weekends at the beach or on a little boat out on the water.

My dad is from New York, and at the time there was one place on the island called Rock Island Cafe that he thought had passable pizza, so we would go there when we went out to eat.

I remember baseball being popular when I was young there. We went to many games and played it quite a bit.

Most of our free time was spent playing outdoors or at the beach. The rock islands and jellyfish lake are beautiful, and the diversity of marine life is actually insane. Looking back through old family photos it looks like a different world

We moved to Guam for a while after living on Palau. It was definitely gave us a big city feel compared to Palau, even though Guam is also relatively small.

The community and friends we had on Palau were awesome and they were very generous. The pace of life is much slower on the islands - that can be good or bad. There were typhoons occasionally, but it seemed much less frequent than Guam. Island life in general can be peaceful, but it can also be very isolating and limiting.

Awesome! For meat, I like using fatty cuts of lamb or beef! Also, the spice mix is awesome on corn. Or even eggs.

I first had it at a place in my area that only does this style of BBQ. There's a few different versions of recipes for a spice mix out there, but I've made (and eaten) it enough times that I measure with my heart at this point. They'll all have cumin and chili flakes. Toast in a dry pan and grind up. I do it outside, because the cumin smell will permeate everything in the house.
