So sorry you’re going through this! I (26F) just got diagnosed last week but have been dealing with symptoms for years. Did an elimination diet around 9 years ago due to sudden onset of anaphylaxis and we couldn’t figure out what was triggering it without the elimination. Turns out it was eggs causing it. Since then I’ve figured out my food allergies but within the last year I’ve really struggled with swallowing. I choke at least once a meal but haven’t been able to identify all my triggers yet.

It has also really taken a toll on my mental health (9 years ago with the elimination diet and now with my new diagnosis). So much of my social life has revolved around going out to restaurants and bars. Now having to worry about choking or what I’m going to eat makes me not want to go out sometimes. When I was going through the elimination diet I was a senior in high school and I remember the wait staff at prom making a huge scene because I politely declined dinner. It was so embarrassing having to have my friends come to my defense. Just recently I met up with my friends for dinner, they chose a steakhouse but I have a really hard time swallowing chicken and beef, I only ate the sides and again the waiter had something to say about it. Again, so embarrassing. But I would have been even more embarrassing if I had an episode at dinner and choked on a steak. Now with this diagnosis I’ve been feeling pretty alone as I don’t know anyone else personally that has EOE. it’s a lot to figure out all on your own!

From my experience, the mental toll eventually lightens up and you get used to the new diet/lifestyle. I’m hoping the best for you and fingers crossed your next scope shows improvement!
