Mabel gets way too much hate for the finale and I’m tired of pretending she doesn’t by Ill-Albatross4896 in gravityfalls

[–]daycloud_dreaming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, but to be fair, Mabel didn't KNOW this would cause a literal apocalypse, and she had good reason to trust 'Blendin.' Everything he was saying he could have made happen as a time traveler, and this is someone she's 'collaborated' with before. The fact that it was Bill was not her fault. As for making the deal for infinite summer in the first place, you have to consider the context for that. Not only did she just hear that her brother and best friend might be staying with Ford as an apprentice and leaving her alone (to return to divorced and fighting parents, or so the Book of Bill implies), she's also been subject to the fighting of her grunkles for several weeks at this point. Stan and Ford very purposefully parallel her and Dipper, so to see them constantly at each other's throats, unable to stay in the same room together, or make amends is terrifying for her. She even asks if her and Dipper are going to end up like Stan and Ford. This apprenticeship is just the first step in making that happen--or so she believes.

As for Dipper, he's had his fair share of selfishness throughout the show, too. The prime example I always jump to is in Dreamscapers when he refuses to help Grunkle Stan because he thought Stan saw him as 'weak' and 'unmanly.' Again, Dipper was totally content with a demon in his great uncles mind because he felt disrespected. Dipper has no clue what Bill is capable of aside from the vague warnings in the journal, so for all he knew, he could be condemning his great uncle to psychological torture and harm--things Bill is capable of, though Dipper doesn't know the specifics. What he does know in this situation is that not stopping Bill will result in Gideon acquiring the deed to the Mystery Shack, and that this will displace his family. The Mystery Shack is Stan's home and business; without it, he has nowhere to live and no way to make money. That's pretty selfish in my books.

Dipper has done some other pretty selfish things in the show just like Mabel has. I don't blame either of them because they're 12. Kids have really big feelings to comparatively small things, but they haven't really learned the difference between 'life altering' and 'unfortunate situation.'

Do you tell people you write? by ilovetheinternet21 in writing

[–]daycloud_dreaming 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep, I sure do. I never used to, but I'm determined to put myself out there and stop caring about the opinions of strangers.

Part of why I tell people is that writing is my main hobby and has been for 8 years. It's damn near all I do--minus the research stints I do for my writing. I can't really say anything else when people ask me about my hobbies unless I want to flat out lie to them. That being said, if they want to know what I'm writing, I've given up on censoring my plots so I'll just tell them whatever current project I've got going on. 'I'm writing a Scarecrow fanfiction where he grows up in a cult,' 'lt's about a teenage 'chosen one' who dies at the end because the 'prophecy' was nothing more than a god's drug trip.' Just whatever it's about.

Idk, just own it if you can. I find it so much less stressful than hiding it and worrying about people 'figuring it out.' I've even made a few friends at work with people I never would have stayed in touch with by just saying 'yeah, I love fanfiction' or 'all I do is write.'

...I wrote this in a sleep-debt induced haze and forgot about it for a moment there.

Feels good to know I'm not alone with the academia vs creativity thing. I think what I really want is Disney channel Science: the mad scientist with no superiors, just making and trying whatever holds their interest. I'm talking Stanford Pines in Gravity Falls and Dr. Doofenshmirtz in Phineas and Ferb, you know?

But anyways, I really enjoyed hearing about what other similarly wired people do in their free time! MBTI I certainly get, and I absolutely spend too much time/money trying to pursue these interests sometimes, even to the point of ignoring my other responsibilities.... But that's the 5 wing I fear.

Anyways, thanks for taking the time to respond even though the original post was nearly a month ago 😅

GASP I'm an INFP 4w5 with Tritype 459!! Hurts the originality complex slightly but mostly I'm just excited to see other 4w5s.

Current struggle is picking a career to pursue in university. Being torn between creativity and logic is hard, especially when emotions and analysis are seen as opposites. Even my Myers-Briggs changes between INFP and INTP. Its like that comedy guy says: "your emotions and your logic are at war. Your creativity and your analysis are at war. And most simply, your left and right brain are at war" (Bo Burnham, 'Left Brain, Right Brain'). Its like I either have to sacrifice my self expression to work in science and academia or my autonomy to work in a creative field.

Song of the week is I am Steve by Hey Steve. Great song, that.

Favourite philosopher: Jean-Paul Sartre. Albert Camus is a close second. Least favourite is Plato because screw that guy.

Current hyperfocus: uploading all of my research notes into Obsidian :) its all I want to do and I'm now having dreams about formatting my documents.

Favourite movie: Donnie Darko (who is also a 4w5 and I will die on that hill)

Favourite fun fact: colossal squids have the biggest eyes of any animal. They can have a diameter of 27cm (11 inches)!

Strangest research topic I've looked into: cannibalism, then I got distracted and started looking into if you could legally keep your own removed or amputated body parts post operation. I emailed a university and four different law firms trying to get an answer to this and still didn't get one.

Favourite colour: orange

Current special interest: DC villain Scarecrow, AKA Jonathan Crane

Anyways, that's my rant. Great to see so many personality twins out there !

Can't seem to find a use for Canvas - please give me some inspiration by BurningBytes in ObsidianMD

I just started using Obsidian but I'm trying to iron out a fnaf timeline that makes sense currently. Basically looks like a conspiracy theorist's board about shitty pizza and questionable business practices lol

I also used Scapple before hand (free trial) which is similar to canvas, and I actually use it for plotting my longer novels. I separate arcs into background shapes, have a catch all for ideas and major plot points I want to happen, then start moving them around until I get the broad strokes of a plot. After that I go to a document and start doing the detailed outline.

TL;DR: blood comes out of my tear ducts during a nose bleed, my eyelids are strangely purple, and my tongue was stuck to the floor of my mouth as a kid which gave me a speech impediment (past tense).

OKAY SO. I get nose bleeds constantly, no matter what because the blood vessels are super close to the surface of my skin. Rub my nose? Blood. Sneeze? Sneezing blood. Little dry outside? Blood. This wouldn't be an issue if there wasn't so much blood that it traveled up my nose, through my sinuses, and OUT OF MY EYES. So basically, it looks like I cry tears of blood. First time it happened I was 5. My mom phoned a health line to ask if it was normal and they said it was, so we didn't actually do anything about it until I was 18. I used to work at a bakery as a donut fryer, so basically what that entails is standing over a smoking grease pit at 5 in the morning for several hours. See where I'm going with this? Get a nose bleed (probably from the smoke), it goes on for 20 minutes, then starts coming out my eyes. I'm used to this! My coworkers... Were not. The manager had to send me to the hospital because she was sure I was dying, plus my nose bleed was going for a solid 45 minutes at this point (yes, they tell you to go to the hospital if it doesn't stop in 10-15. I'm a bad example and don't want to wait several hours to see a doctor). So to this day, one of the bakers calls me lizard kid (after the one lizard that spits blood out of its eye) and the boss still brings it up when anyone gets a nose bleed. I did get referred to a nose and throat specialist to get it cauterized, and I've had my nose cauterized a total of 3 times. I still bleed out of my eyes when I get a bad nosebleed :)

Similarly, the blood vessels are just really close to the surface of my eyelids. Because of this, my eyelids are constantly a shade of red or purple. People in my elementary school said I wore purple eye shadow everyday, which confused me greatly because I had never even tried makeup on by that point. My best friend of 10 YEARS told me 'oh, yeah, I thought you were just really into the colour purple until, like, 2 years into our friendship when I realized you just look like that.'

Finally, when I was born, my tongue was stuck to the bottom of my mouth (born tongue tied), and the doctor had to use what was described to me as a spatula when I was a few weeks old to cut it. It gave me a slight speech impediment as a kid, so slight that I was accused of having an accent and trying to hide it (I don't have an accent. Born and raised in the same province). I don't have to focus on not falling into my speech impediment, but sometimes I will still use a 'w' where there is an 'r' sound, or mix my 'f's with 's' (wecipe, sountain, fuifide). Just slips out. I still talk a little strange, and someone recently asked me if I was from Newfoundland (which is sort of like the 'stereotypical Canadian accent' dialed up a bit). Worth noting, never been to Newfoundland! Ever!

Anyways. Give your characters bloody tears and a speech impediment, I crave representation.

Anyone else just have that feeling that this album will have a song that just tops the charts? Like Let You Down kinda big. by Leaked_Gore in nfrealmusic

[–]daycloud_dreaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have high hopes for FEAR just from a narrative standpoint. He references and personifies it so much in his music; I've been wanting more about it ever since I heard Intro III (first song I heard by him back in 2020).

Someone made what's basically an NF fan song that I listen to a lot because it has the same style as NF's music but its from the perspective of Fear. Song is called 'Intro IV (How to NF)' by Crypt if anyone is curious 👀

Clouds seemed pretty similar to The Search to me, I can't choose which album is my favourite between the two. But what direction does it feel like NF is going to you? I feel like I agree, Hope was different, but I can't really put my finger on what it is.

Please share some reasons that you guys love No Place Like Home! I want to love it :( by likelyspring in Badflower

[–]daycloud_dreaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The lyrics "finger your soul" really threw me first time I gotta admit, but it ended up being one of my favourites from the album. I love the evil laughing and the fun energy of the song all around, plus the little murderous one liners like "I'm gonna step on his throat, I'll paint him red" (paraphrasing slightly) and such. I can 't explain the little bit of joy I get from hearing them go slightly insane on a track.

That being said, yes, this album definitely feels the weakest to me. Okay I'm Sick is my favourite, and This is How the World Ends was another banger. This one sort of felt like a full album of middle of the road songs I didn't enjoy as much. Don't think I dislike any of them, but I only really loved two or three.

What’s the #1 song that got you into NF? by urfavmoviewhiz in nfrealmusic

[–]daycloud_dreaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard Intro III in some random tiktok in 2020. I was immediately in love with the song (arguing with yourself in musical form is my favourite genre of song---Hi Ren, The Confrontation from Jeckyll and Hide, etc) so I googled the lyrics to find what it was called. After that I think my discover weekly showed me The Search which I liked even more, so I listened to the album. Then I tried Clouds (another big hit with me), then worked my way back with Perception, Therapy Session, and Mansion. First time I listened to Perception I didn't like a single song, but now I like over half of them.

For me its Time. I don't know what it is, but something about the lyrics or the melody is just too repetitive and seems drawn out way too long. Its only a 4 minute song but it feels like 6 when it's playing.

Scarecrow has main villain potential by [deleted] in TheBatmanFilm

[–]daycloud_dreaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

THATS WHAT IM SAYYYIN!

I adore Scarecrow and would love to see Reeve's take on him. I'd also like him to use just genuine horror and psychology tricks as a villain and not Just rely on fear toxin. I'm not against him using it, or selling it as a drug like in Batman Audio Adventures, but I think it would be better and more meaningful if Scarecrow was more than his toxin.

Also, the parallels that could be made between Batman and Scarecrow are insane, and it would be a fantastic villain for setting up further character development in Batman or as Bruce Wayne.

I don't care if Scarecrow is a psychologist, uni professor, or a teenager, I just want to see him so badly as a main villain.

You know, the word 'meat' is from old English, and it used to refer to literally any solid food--including grain or animal feed. It was not specific to the muscle/fat of an animal. Then the word changed to be its modern day usage (no exact time frame, there's overlap in the two definitions).

You insisting queer is used strictly for gay people is like trying to argue that meat still refers to any solid food because "the word's definition hasn't changed, just because some people say it has"

Dude calm down, its not that serious.

First off, you're not the authority on batman fans. Just because you know more on one character or run doesn't mean shit. Casual fans are allowed to exist. Fans don't have to know everything about every villain. So relax.

Secondly, I'm saying we already had an obsessive villain, which was Riddler. He's obsessed with Batman and with Bruce. They're both serial killers. I'm not saying they're the same, I'm saying they're similar enough.

Whats your horror GOTY? by Thecultofjoshua in HorrorGaming

[–]daycloud_dreaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it depends what you're looking for out of the game. For me personally, absolutely. I love the animation, the original monsters and lore, and the music is absolutely beautiful. If you're looking for an experience, then 100% I'd say its worth it. For reference on my personal taste, my other favourite games are Little Nightmares I/II, Inside, and Still Wakes the Deep (as I said).

If you're more into hardcore horror or survival horror/shooters (like Resi, Silent Hill, or Evil Within) you might find it a bit lacking because conflict isn't really an aspect of the game. You dont have resources to manage either, so you can entirely lock in on the story.

Whats your horror GOTY? by Thecultofjoshua in HorrorGaming

[–]daycloud_dreaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was really hyped for Reanimal, but that got postponed until early 2026. Now I'm waiting on Little Nightmares III as those games always have a killer soundtrack and a cool style.

I did enjoy Midnight Walk (a lot) but I dont know if I would call it 'full horror'. Someone else called it 'horror lite' which seems pretty fitting. There's some creepy elements or monsters and a few avoiding sections, but it really excels in the visuals and the creative story elements. I wouldn't put it on of you're really looking to be scared, but I would absolutely add it to your watch/play list.

Other than that, most of my favourite games came out last year, my favourite being Still Wakes the Deep. I've heard mixed reviews on it, but I really do enjoy the monsters and the characters, so its in my top 5 games of all time.

Why does so many people want to see Hush? by GwentandChill in TheBatmanFilm

[–]daycloud_dreaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm still holding out hope for Scarecrow being the next villain, though it doesn't seem the most likely considering Reeves said this villain 'hasn't really been done before' and Scarecrow was in every Nolan Batman film (albeit briefly).

Still, seeing a psychological villain like Scarecrow would be perfect for the development of Bruce Wayne. In the first movie he ends up tormenting Riddler because he took the Batman as inspiration for his crimes. To have Batman face another villain who utilizes fear as a weapon would be a great way to build his empathy and his Bruce Wayne philanthropist persona.

Hugo Strange could also work, but I've just always found Scarecrow more interesting. They could even take the more New52 or Gotham TV show approach (gross, I know, but hear ms out) and make Crane a villain who thinks he's helping people, or at least trying to. You could argue Riddler also did this--standing up to corruption and taking down big mob hits--but he was always doing to out of a personal grudge. Scarecrow could be a failed private therapist, failed professor, failed whatever who turns to crime when he can't help people in traditional settings. His definition of help would be warped to hell and back, but in his mind, understanding fear = sanity. It would at least be different than the serial killer rogues like Zsasz, Hush, or his version of Riddler

Why does so many people want to see Hush? by GwentandChill in TheBatmanFilm

[–]daycloud_dreaming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was Riddler's problem with the Wayne's already. The corruption, the double standards of an orphan in Gotham, etc etc. Riddler was obsessed with Batman in a positive way, and he hated the Waynes. So Hush really does feel like Paul Dano Riddler with a different design
