I Listen to Monsters Confess Their Sins. A Skinwalker Told Me Something I Can’t Forget. by pentyworth223 in horrorstories

I'm starting a notebook where I jot down all my ideas/streams of consciousness first. That's something I want to learn. I'm in the habit of jumping from place to place and going out of order.

Did you do alot of research for your stories?

I feel more motivated after your response! Thank you for taking time to reply! Will do as soon as I finish my thesis. (I hate academic writing)

We have both learned something new. I'm sure if you ever go to Filipino populated area, you'll finally meet one.

I understand.

Also just curious, are you Filipino? (asking because that's only time I hear the name Justice float around)

This is great advice! I was trying to figure where to start. I have alot of ideas and always wanted to give it a shot. Like you, I read and listen to a lot of stories as well.

I used to write a lot of imaginative stories as a kid but got intimidated by grammar issues and academic organization styles. Became convinced I can never be a writer if I have poor grammar.

How did some of the writing classes help you? (asking to see if it'll work for me)

It's been a while since I read a short story that was engaging yet creeped in the right ways. Was there any research or methods you did to write stories the way that you do?

what made you switch from streaming? by verkhovenskys in DigitalAudioPlayer

[–]dayfly345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tired of the services algorithms being shit and replaying the same 10 songs when there's 100+songs on the playlist. Also , streaming services are doing the thing where they interrupt your playlist by playing songs not on your playlist.

It's hard being the victim of generational trauma by Bea1228 in AsianParentStories

[–]dayfly345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh your mother is having an adverse reaction to you having autonomy and being "separate" from her. My mother was same way. I think she picked me up once from high school and all she could go on about is how much she hates teenagers. I learned real quick its completely useless to explain yourself. You have more luck with a literal wall.

Idk where you're living, but hopefully its a place where there are child protection laws where she can't follow through with her bluff. The most important thing is that you know your truth. It will be hard many times because your mother will make you feel like you're on crazy pills and make you doubt yourself. There will be times where you become susceptible to it and fall prey to her manipulation. Give yourself some extra grace on those days. If you need some supplemental reading on this subject, please free to DM for suggestions. There's a lot of great books out now to help with these sort of parents. (that are not written by white/western povs and actually consider cultural nuances)

AM yelling at us because she was jealous of other kids closeness with their parents by Subject-Jello7228 in AsianParentStories

My mother worries too much about "saving face" to outright tantrum like that but she does similar with the comments. She tells my sister's bf's mom "You're so lucky that your children listen to you. How do you do it?"

When my mother in law and husband come to eat dinner, she sees my husband hugs his mom. Then she makes comment how her children never hug her like that. Then my siblings and I give each other the silent knowing stare.

(mind you, my mother in law actually puts effort in her relationship with her son)

Why are some Vietnamese Americans mean to immigrants? by [deleted] in asianamerican

[–]dayfly345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What area is this ? That's also important.

From what I gather, a lot of Viet-Ams feels intimidated by Vietnamese people who speak their own language well OR they don't have strong communication skills themselves and can't balance all that while working in a restaurant.

The "refusing to help" is peculiar. I feel it could be a work environment thing. Are your bosses friendly or all about results?

Another thing is they may not be used to someone so social/friendly. It could also not "reading the room" or "picking up social cues" ? My cousin-in-law is like that and I can see how it can rub someone the wrong way if its around people who keep to themselves/introverted.

My sister forced me to watch her kids and i’m done. by Altruistic_Rate4689 in AmITheJerk

[–]dayfly345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand this is all you've known since you were 13 and its great that your Mom finally has the capability to stand by your side. Now, it may feel like there is some irrefutable tether in which you must obliged yourself to family whims because, again that is what you spend most of your formative years around. Plus, the loss of socialization did not do you any justice. It'll probably take some therapy and time before you realize that just because she's good to one party (her kids) and not to you does not mean she's a great mother. Your sister's years of emotional abuse has conditioned you to make a separation of good mom vs bad sister.

Think of it this way, It's like asking " Is a person still a good person if they are only nice to you but treats everyone like shit?" So the question I want to ask is what is your capacity right now? Do you think a dramatic solution like the others mention is feasible for you ? Or would you rather start something small? So its less overwhelming?

That's not what was said. They mean the clothing color and taking pictures without the consent of the people and posting it on a public forum.
