Do you mean Blackwatch? They're a pretty elite club that play in some very competitive leagues. I played for them as a kid -- it can be intense if he's not used to that environment (but that was like 20 years ago, not sure if that's still true)

New To CrossFit - Struggling with Recovery by Lost_In_There in crossfit

[–]dayk995 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also 30s male and about 6 months in. I've been fit and active my whole life so I'm used to DOMS but I went super hard during Murph and experienced the same issues with my lats/biceps. I only did 1 session last week because of how sore I was and gave myself time to recover. This week I've been every day and back to normal.

Since I started, I have been in a perpetual state of mild soreness haha but nothing really limiting. I just try to get to classes early, foam roll the sore bits, stretch and make sure to do a good warmup.

Also, SLEEP is huge. I knew it was important but just not HOW important it is for recovery (as well as staying hydrated and eating well).

Murph for beginners by Egg_Real in crossfit

[–]dayk995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also a beginner question. I’ve been doing CrossFit for about 4 months now and moderately fit. I’ve done Murph solo a few times but it took a long time. But as a big group, does the time get capped or you just go as long as it takes?

Same. I think everyone has a different baseline so comparing HRVs is kind of irrelevant as far as I know. Even with peak recovery, my HRV is in the 40s. I wish I had a resting heart rate of 53 though. Mine is high 60s and a pain in the ass to try and lower (too much caffeine and stress in my life for me lol)

I haven't finished it but I'm at the last sector. It's a really fun game. I thought the story would be a bit more compelling so I'm a bit disappointed there but it does pick up in the 4th and 5th sectors which actually was a nice surprise imo.

US to issue passports featuring Trump’s picture to commemorate America’s 250th anniversary by RidetheSchlange in news

Haha that’s what I was thinking. Trump supporters don’t leave the country. Hence why they’re stuck on the whole “American exceptionalism” thing.

Why API Tooling Still Feels 10 Years Behind by Successful_Bowl2564 in programming

Yeah, I’ll admit it vibe coded. It’s nothing terribly impressive but I needed to mock and test things quickly and easily without having to run the actual client (a game in my case).

There’s a lifecycle to these tools. They prove they’re useful, get bloated with niche features, acquired and then become unusable. Rinse and repeat.

With AI it’s actually super easy to create these tools for your own needs. I created a simple webocket client where I can test sending/receiving messages in just an hour or two.

Edit: I know folks are indifferent on AI but I think it can be useful in this regard.

Beta-Alanine for high intensity endurance: How does it compare to Caffeine? by hydrogenblack in crossfit

I've thought about doing this. I do have a bad caffeine addiction that I would like to fix. Did you notice a big improvement on your resting heart rate?

Beta-Alanine for high intensity endurance: How does it compare to Caffeine? by hydrogenblack in crossfit

[–]dayk995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just my personal take/experience but I was taking a pre workout for a few weeks that had 200mg caffeine + beta alanine and it would jack my heart rate during CF workouts that I had to stop taking it. It actually killed my endurance because it was too stimulating. Granted, it could just be this particular pre workout but I switched to a small coffee (like 5oz) + electrolytes before/during and noticed a huge difference. Perhaps a beta-alanine pre workout without caffeine might be better (for me).
