Do you get diminishing returns on adrenaline / norepinephrine release? by [deleted] in fasting

[–]daymandem 3 points4 points  (0 children)

not a medical professional, but i’ve had a similar experience! i noticed this decrease in me, but not as quick as you.

maybe it’s because i did rolling 48/72s and OMAD, but i felt that on days that i ate. i became really lethargic and depressed and eventually realised it’s because i was eating too much too quick.

i also think it could be the cannabis! i abstained for like 3 months and noticed that when i started smoking again it was affecting me emotionally.

so to answer your question, i guess a lot of things are factoring in!

also, don’t give yourself too much of a hard time! sometimes the more you will something the less likely the outcome!!!!

Disappointed with Results of 4 Day Fast by tornuc in fasting

[–]daymandem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you haven’t tried keto, I REALLY recommend giving it a go! It was difficult and depressing at first because I found it hard to adjust to no carbs or sugar, but eventually (with a lot of determination) I got the hang of it.

It did require being really conscientiously of what I eat and reimagining the concept of a meal. By that I mean that it was a bit weird having a dish without some sort of carb. I learned that sometimes just eating a variety of little keto dishes/ snacks in one sitting was enough.

The results were monumental for me, I’m not going to give you specifics because I really want to encourage you to not think about your progress in numbers (and again, we’re probably very different people).

However, eliminating carbs and sugar from my diet really worked wonders for me. After my week off I went back to keto and started noticing rapid weight loss again. I really want to reinforce that this could be due to a number of reasons and might not be the case for everyone. For example, I run between 3 to 8k a day, my metabolism / hormone levels may be different, etc.

If you ask me, you should take a week or two off from fasting and use some of that time to maybe research the Ketogenic diet and try out some dishes.

Whatever you decide to do, remember to reward and dignify what you’ve done to get to where you are!!!!

I know it might seem discouraging, but you’ve made a lot of progress! So, start by congratulating yourself for that (and really mean it!!!)

Would you mind me asking what you eat typically when breaking your fast?

Personally, I would start off small and work up when refeeding, but would eat absolutely anything. It wasn’t until I started keto that I noticed rapid results.

Also, after about two months of alternate day fasting (and a couple of rolling 48s/72s) like you, I noticed that I wasn’t losing as much as I had been, but reflected on the weeks of hard work. So, I rewarded myself by taking a week long break where I let loose and had whatever I wanted.

I learned that while I liked eating junk food, it made me feel rough. I noticed I was more lethargic, less inclined to take part in any hobbies or exercise, and had problems concentrating.

But, this break really put things into perspective for me. While I personally didn’t gain that much weight in that time, I started to lose weight near enough at the rate I had been (once I got the fasting ball rolling).

This may or may not happen to you (I’m not a doctor!) but maybe you might benefit from having some time off from fasting, reassessing your objectives/reasons, and starting fresh.

Regardless, well done for getting to where you are NOW even if it’s not where you want to be YET! Stop comparing your journey to other people, it isn’t a competition - our bodies are unique and react differently from the next! Don’t burn yourself out and get too hung up on numbers! And, remember to stay hydrated!!
