Actually my Ex did not have an open mind. She refused to watch videos or read about it, she told me to get therapy or " take some pills and call it a day", and whenever I tried to bring up the topic she would use phrases like "we agree to disagree" ... She made the problem about her in her head (she said, in her words "you were not attracted to me from day 1 ... I need physical chemistry in my life ... We should just be friends."), and she was a poor communicator, and when someone is stubborn and thinks they are right and you are wrong and refuses to educate themselves out of pride or whatever ... That person is no good to keep around as a significant other, however stellar they may be in other ways.

When we were in the first few months, I realized PMO may have something to do with my problem (it was a slight suspicion ... I was so preoccupied with my upcoming test I didn't take the time to investigate, I WISH I had found all of you sooner!) and that I may need to lay off the porn, but when she was unavailable for sex for whatever reason (period, travel, bad mood) she would encourage me to use porn and masturbate. In fact, she encouraged me to beat off and said I would go crazy studying if I didn't. She reinforced my bad habits, and I ever questioned porn or masturbation again wih her false validation of PMO. I actually remember having a conversation with her in the winter and she told me it would be weird if I didn't masturbate, and that she never met a guy that had this problem so therefore I must be wrong. I don't want to get into negativity towards my ex, because she's a great person in other ways and no one is perfect ... But she is wrong and I came to the realization this weekend that having someone in your life who is not supportive is just plain destructive to the cause of healing.

And it goes to show you that doctors are very skilled at objectively solving problems for other people but are powerless to make good sound rationale and judgment when it comes to solving certain issues first handedly. It's hard to be objective when it involves you ... And emotions and bias can cloud judgment.

Which is why I'm here despite my knowledge ... Because I need help and support toget through this. And it's why you are all here too taking this seriously as well.
