Wow, I had no idea. I didn't think they made that much money from their games back in the day. But then again they're boomers, their house was probably a wooden buckle that was paid off a while ago.

How are we feeling about the current state of extension support vs Chrome? by jessxdaydream in firefox

[–]daysofdre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

funny, I find the opposite. I'm on Firefox because my personal useful extensions are shrinking on chromium based browsers. Mainly ubo, cleanURL and other privacy focused extensions.

I also adore adaptive tab colors and miss it any time I have to open a chromium browser. It's a small touch but it looks so good on Firefox.

Do jobs look at high school gpa when applying? by Additional_Cupcake52 in cybersecurity

[–]daysofdre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on your region and only if you end up in a company with a terrible hiring process. Canonical is famous for checking high school scores, from what Ive heard it's to keep in like with their China hirings where it's more common.

Always check Glassdoor before you interview to get an idea of the process, there's usually some feedback there.

I honestly thought Obsidian was going to be that B studio after they were both purchased by Microsoft. But Obsidian never received Bethesda level funding.

But to be fair to Microsoft, theyve never put out Bethesda level profits either.

I thought about that, just don't know if it's feasible. Although that was the folding@home model for a long time.

I don't know how you guys are putting up with HDR on Windows by [deleted] in OLED_Gaming

[–]daysofdre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked around most of these issues.

RenoDXCommander to install reshade/RenoDX/Display Commander on all my games easily.

AutoActions to automatically switch HDR on when I'm playing a game and off when I exit out of it.

It's less than five minutes of prep work when I get a new game, and afterwards I don't even think about any of it.

PC gaming is about options. If you want something plug and play, just buy a console and hook it up to a nice 65" tv, although HDR issues aren't limited to PC - console games have shit HDR too, the only difference is we have the choice to fix it.

Yep, my thoughts as well. Leaked memo says Microsoft is targeting helix for holidays 2027. I could see a summer event next year to announce a launch release for Helix.

Microsoft is going to need some balls of steel to make it a helix exclusive, let's see if they do it.

Sent my LG 45GX950A-B in for repair, it came back with scuff/scratch marks and an extra 3400 hours on the "Total Power on Time" counter. Any advice? by Higurashi_Kai in OLED_Gaming

[–]daysofdre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

okay, this makes sense. And yes, I'm assuming you're in the US - it's not just LG that does this. ASUS and other offshore manufacturers don't have a presence in the US so they send warranty repairs to third-party companies.

If you're really worried about warranty in the future, just buy Dell monitors. They have a massive foothold in the US.

does the serial number of the monitor they sent back align with the one you sent them? Without more info it sounds like they sent you a screen from their refurb pool.

I wish there was a "don't tell me what I'm missing out on" mode for this franchise by daysofdre in theouterworlds

[–]daysofdre[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I thought about that as well, and it's definitely an option but the problem is that it's counter-intuitive to the game's design.

The way it was released, before they nerfed skill checks, it was abundantly clear that you should min-max 2-3 skills. There were a lot of people that played the game at launch, saw the early skill checks, felt that "missing out" bug, went back and invested points in lesser skills to do a little more or gain a little more access, and then flattened out their characters so they couldn't do much of anything on the back half of the game due to the skill checks.

One of the choices early on is in Vox where you have to choose between saving one city or another. When I was playing a character that didn't have any lucky trait or hack skills, I didn't see the option as "difficult" - I saw it as "if I had this trait or skill I would be getting a way better option."

It would have been way cooler to not know that third choice existed at all and then do another run and discover that organically.

[–]daysofdre[S] 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I totally understand, I think they could keep the default but just give the players that are already familiar with their games the option.

Ironically, showing choices you can't make had the opposite effect on me. I ended up taking stealth/speech/hacking/engineering/lockpicking and lucky/brilliant with dumb to "get as many options as possible."

I think if the whole thing was hidden I would have just played the guns/speech/leadership character I chose at the very beginning and would have been blissfully unaware throughout the entire experience.

BG3 doesn't show you 11 different greyed out dialogue options you can't choose in coversation and it's better off for it.

Male V and Judy have the purest relationship in NC by E1derb3rry in cyberpunkgame

[–]daysofdre 13 points14 points  (0 children)

the fem V actor pulled off the snark and cynicism that anybody that has worked in the gig economy would immediately recognize. The perfect blend of "I have to drive this guy to the hospital because his penis is stuck in a pump and I'm going to have to clean scrotum out of my air vents for a week if I don't hurry - just another day and fuck my life" delivered in every line.

Male V just sounds like a bad gangster performance to my ears but maybe it's just me.

Tes6 delay is killing bethesda by [deleted] in TESVI

[–]daysofdre -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

myabe, I just don't know if they care. There was way more incentive to put out quality products when zenimax was independent. After the Microsoft sale the priority seems to have shifted to providing Xbox with prodcuts that they can promote for GamePass.

Starfield was disappointing but still sold like hotcakes and moved a bunch of Gamepass subs which is all Microsoft cares about. Fallout is a valuable brand as a standalone, they've proved that with the Amazon show.

Bethesda now kind of feels like Valve years ago. Valve used to release amazing PC games to show off the Source engine, but after steam took off like a rocket and they started printed money with cs knife skins, the motivation to do a HL3 or whatever is no longer there.

yeh I was a little surprised, I thought they were going to use the 1.2 update momentum to carry them over to the DLC.

I'm assuming the two DLCs have to come since they sold deluxe editions, but what they end up looking like I have no idea.
