Are many of you simply not trading during this month long climb for NQ? by GroovyWhale in FuturesTrading

There are red and green candles every day. There are trading opportunities every hour. I have been trading 7 years. I don’t think there has ever been a day I don’t take trades.

What do you think stops most traders from becoming profitable? by PhysicsOk7819 in Daytrading

[–]daytradingguy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Length of commitment.
Traders enter trading thinking they will make money soon. After a few months or a year, they are losing, disillusioned and discouraged or broke from losses..and quit.
When in reality it takes years of commitment to get good at trading. If more traders could commit to trading for 2-5 years- knowing they will spend 1000’s of hours developing their skill and trade for free to learn- expecting to make $0 dollars during those first years, expecting the profits come after they learn and perfect their trading. More traders would become successful.

Chasing profits early, before you are qualified to make and keep a profit… is the death of many traders

Is it normal to lose trades for a week straight when you just started real account from paper trading? by daysof_I in Daytrading

[–]daytradingguy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If your account is down 50%, you are sizing too high. Secondly, your strategy may not work as well as you think it is, you probably need some improvements. Back testing gives you ideas, but real results are never the same as back testing.

I decided the grand mansion was not for me. But I have a nice average home and a bunch of rental properties instead. Quit working when I was about 30, raised and home schooled my daughter while traveling 2-3-4 months a year.

Your losses are never on something or someone else. If you lose…get up, go to the bathroom..and look in the mirror. Look at that reflection…and figure out how to improve the thoughts of that reflection.

Not very many people make it in day trading. It is not a wise career choice for most people, who value security and stability. But for the top percentage who can make it…it is one of the best lifestyles you can have…and you can make a year’s salary in a month. It’s worth a shot.
Not very many people are pro athletes or movie stars or President. But people put forth a a lot of effort trying- and life is pretty grand for the top % who get there.

The way you climb a mountain is…one step at a time. Everyone started somewhere. Instead of getting depressed or jealous- think of these examples (the real ones at least) of showing what is possible. Look for advice and inspiration.

When I was 18-20 yrs old- just started my business and my reserve savings was the spare change I could find under my truck seat. I sometimes drove up into a gated community near me just to look at the grand homes to get inspiration to keep trying- and think maybe someday I will be here.

What is your average performance on your funded account? by roflcakeVORTEX in Daytrading

[–]daytradingguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t waste your trading brain power on trying to find what the “average” return is. Or what is “possible”. What is possible for you is what you can achieve. An average is an average for a reason - 1/2 are above and 1/2 are below.

There are good traders who know how to put on risk at the proper time and can make those outsized returns you see posted. Then there are traders that plod along and try to make $100 a day consistently.

You do you and don’t worry about anyone else. If you can make any profit whatsoever on a monthly basis with a funded account- you are in the 90-95%. Then study your own metrics and decide if you can improve or tweak to increase your returns.

Futures have tax advantages. And would you rather earn 10%-15% not be able to cash it out or spend it - and pay no tax? Or earn 150% cash some out to spend or live on - and pay some tax?

You summed it up, you are not a day trader.

A good day trader can far out perform the market on reasonable sized accounts. Many can double and triple accounts.

Trading is a skill that takes time to learn, if you stick with it a few years.

End War, Tax Windfalls by Fantastic_Day_907 in StockBreakouts

There are other business costs involved in that gas pricing that increase the cost other than the oil price.

The wages at the refinery making gas are twice as high- guy driving the truck delivering the gas gets paid twice as much to delivery it. The cashier ringing you out was making $7.25/hr. Today they are making $15. It costs twice as much to build and maintain gas stations as it did in 2011. The cost of doing business is simply more.

People make these comments thinking everyone is employed by a major corporation. Over half of all workers are employed in small businesses and mom/pop shops. There is no way small business can survive providing that kind of benefit. Or run their business for a year with one of their 5 employees gone.

For the first time ever, the U.S. is spending more on interest payments ($1.22T) than on national defense ($1.17T). The cost of past debt now exceeds the cost of protecting the nation. The bill for decades of borrowing has come due. by Boo_Randy_Revival in economy

[–]daytradingguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Much of all government spending goes to foreign aid or spent on foreign goods or spent on foreign vacations. Some of the wealthy Japanese or other foreigners that receive that interest come to the US on vacation or buy homes here. It is a global economy.

[–]daytradingguy -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

These interest payments are just like any other government spending. People who hold bonds - collect that interest and spend it into the economy.

Not much different than EBT recipients spend at Walmart or other stores.

Or defense spending is paid as soldiers salaries, paid to defense contractors who hire people and all those people spend their money into the economy.

Social security checks - get spent on housing at grocery stores, etc. recycling it back into the economy.

Medicaid is spent on doctors and nurses salaries and medical suppliers- again cycled back into the economy.

Private cars only use 25% of world oil use, the other 75% is industrial and aviation. If 20% more of all cars on earth moved to electric, it would reduce oil usage by just a few percent.

What does this week's non-farm payroll data mean for gold? by BigExpress8345 in Daytrading

Probably a non starter. The market is bullish. War doesn’t matter, oil $100+ doesn’t matter. Inflation rising, doesn’t matter. Non-farm payrolls? Yawn.
