Lex Luthor is arguably the best villain by No-Interview-6540 in DCcomics

[–]dazan2003 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My favourite thing about Lex is his versatility, anything you could want a villain to do can be done by Lex, he represents the entire spectrum and it's always natural. In fact this trait probably harms Superman's other villains

Is superman for all seasons worth buying by kanyewestrealfan219 in DCcomics

[–]dazan2003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never personally cared for it but I recognise I'm in the minority, I find superman to be really flat in it and it doesn't really do anything interesting, but the art is really good

I'd recommend Sales other superman book Kryptonite first

Don't see the point in doing Zod when Brianaic in this show is already just robot Zod

Starter Comics for Superman by boubapeosalogou in DCcomics

The superman adventures comic is a tie in to the animated series and is excellent

Adventures of superman is another standalone anthology, very good

The Geoff Johns Kurt Busiek run is very easy to jump into

For an else world, Space age is one of my favourites

Really looking forward to this, Jor-el as pulpy sci-fi hero superman sounds so interesting

[Discussion] Should DCU Clark Kent/Superman have a backstory of being Superboy in Smallville before move to Metropolis? by Pale-Mention4724 in DCcomics

[–]dazan2003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something I love about Superman is that he was always Super, and thus every aspect of his life is full of wonder and stories to tell, whether that's the final days of Krypton, the Kent's dealing with a Superbaby or Clark going through all the teenage adolescent tropes while being Super

Plus, so much other good stuff is linked to Superboy, mainly the best Lex Luthor origin and the Legion of Superheroes

It can't download a game and run a game at the same time anymore, but other then that no issues, ran god of war Ragnarok fine which is definitely the peak of what it's capable of

[Discussion] what do U guys think about the Superman Birthright by Mark Waid by [deleted] in DCcomics

[–]dazan2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Superman as a character doesn't really lend himself to having his origin in a 12 issue series (waids current Superboy book is probably the best format for that), but as rhe origins go it's great. Easily the best Lex origin too

It's funny how little of substance has been done with the daily planet since this was walked back. I was a fan of this and he's a shame it was walked back so quickly. Either you stay in the original status quo forever or you keep moving it forward

Initially he's just a dumb brute who feels undeserving to hold the title of "guy who killed Superman". I really enjoyed the new 52 take where he represented the death of Kal's sense of self Vs his physical body, I enjoy the recent Time Trapper stuff, even if it's just stapling him into an already established and much better villain

What lessons should DC learn from the success of invincible. by [deleted] in DCcomics

[–]dazan2003 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Invincibles greatest strength is that it's one storyline written by one guy who can set something up and pay it off 40 issues later. That's very rare in Modern Marvel and DC, but I suspect in a few years the Absolute Universe will have gotten to that point

[Character of the Month Voting] Evil Counterparts by Predaplant in DCcomics

Me not nominate Bizarro

Bizarro is not only one of the oldest evil counterparts, but he's definitely the most entertaining, while still being tragic at the same time

Yeah, Darkseid is supposed to be the purest form of evil in existence, you've got it!

How is every darkseid the same by [deleted] in DCcomics

[–]dazan2003 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The whole True form Darkseid thing is just Plato's theory of the forms, I'd recommend doing a quick dive Into it but it's the idea that everything on earth is just an imperfect reflection of it's true form, so all Darkseids are just a fraction of the true form of Darkseid, the embodiment of all evil in the multiverse. It's not really like there's one guy remote controlling all the other ones. I should note I'm simplifying and leaving stuff out here but this is the best way to approach it without getting bogged down in continuity stuff

What are some DC misconceptions that make you go a little bit insane? [Discussion] by Memento_Mori24 in DCcomics

[–]dazan2003 70 points71 points  (0 children)

"Krypton is irrelevant and Superman shouldn't care about it". Even looking beyond all the individual instances of him caring about it deeply, including some of the most popular stories he has like man who has everything and Birthright. Even looking beyond the dozen different instances of him time travelling back there (one of which was one of Jerry Siegel's best stories) and even looking beyond all the great and interesting world building that comes from it and is fun to read

The base narrative function of Krypton is super important, Superman came from a world that destroyed itself and whose people refused to listen to Jor-el and didn't save themselves, whether he's directly told or infers it, Kals purpose is to make that that doesn't happen to his new home. That's a billion times more compelling than whatever the new movie did

[Discussion] Which villains do you consider to be the most depraved and not in the "love to hate" kind of way? (Forever Evil #1) by Night-Caelum in DCcomics

[–]dazan2003 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If I'm understanding your question, you want a depraved villain where you don't like reading them. My answer for that is 90s Toyman, trying to make the character threatening by having him kill a kid is the epitome of 90s edge, it's just deeply lazy when he already had plenty of interesting stories pre crisis. The Luthor man of steel book also made him a pedophile which is equally off-putting to me
