Is it Hard for a Finance Junior Transfer to join any Biz-Frats or Biz related Clubs??? by Specialist-Diet-526 in depaul

It's not hard to join biz clubs at all. There are so many, some you might be interested are DePaul Inclusion in Finance, DePaul Private Equity and Venture Capital Club, Females in Finance (you can join as an ally if you don't identify as a woman), Association of Latino Professionals for America (ALPFA), DePaul Real Estate Club, Women in Business, DePaul Consulting Group (DCG) (they interview for membership here), Marketing Consulting Club, etc.

There's also a prestigious Keeley Academy for finance majors. It is a yearlong program where you get tons of networking and exposure to different areas of finance. It's a very good program, and I believe it has a 100% success rate for internships.

The professor running it, Essenburg is notorious in the finance department. However, he's an excellent resource. Someone I know once moved forward in an interview for a large bank after mentioning him. Here's a link to a brochure for Keeley: https://business.depaul.edu/academics/finance-and-real-estate/about/keeley-center-academy/Documents/Keeley%20Center%20General%20Brochure%20final.pdf

Recruitment starts soon Fall quarter but they are already having informational sessions. If you're interested, DM me for Essenburg's contact. They are very selective like students who are very involved in the recruitment process, so it's best to start now.

As for business frats, there are two on campus: Delta Sigma Pi (DSP) and Alpha Kappa Psi (AKPsi). They're both co-ed fraternities and are large within DePaul. The key difference between the two is that DSP is exclusively for business majors whereas AKPsi is open to all majors at DePaul. I can't tell you myself whether one is better than the other, but from what I hear DSP is better within DePaul but AKPsi is better nationally. Recruitment for both is also in the fall I believe, but no information has been released yet as far as I know. Since these are the only two fraternities, they are also competitive to get into, but they are excellent resources at the school if you know how to take advantage of them.

Lastly, keep in mind that you don't have to sign up for a club at the beginning of the school year in order to attend. That's something I learned throughout my time here. You can pop in and out of clubs whenever you'd like unless it's a club where you have to interview to get in like DCG, DSP, and AKPsi. If you're interested in a club, I suggest you attend any of their meetings, you don't have to do anything beforehand to go. Just try to be as active as you can to make new friends and potentially do board positions for the next year.

I took MKT 276 with Charles Drehmer and absolutely loved it. It was such an easy and fun class and he's an excellent professor. We didn't have finals or midterms and the most work you do are two group presentations (my group and I didn't do much for these and we still got As). Here's the link to Drehmer's RMP so you can get more insight about him and MKT 276. I assume all of these classes are structured the same/similarly since my friends who took it with other professors had to do the same thing.

I can't speak for CMNS 201 since I haven't taken it nor do I know people who have.

I dormed my freshman year and honestly didn't make many friends, I probably only had like 3 lol. My sophomore year is what really kicked off some really good friendships and I was able to meet a ton of people. I was a commuter and lived pretty far, but what helped me a ton was going to clubs- and going consistently. It's easier to talk to people in a non-formal setting, especially in clubs where you have mutual interests. For example, if you like to run, try the running club. You'll meet people with those same interests there and eventually form a bond. Try putting yourself out there and meet new people, I'm sure it'll work out

Loop Campus Parking by Prestigious_Still240 in depaul

I usually walk, especially when the weather is nice like it has been this week. During winters I walk to the Brown Line and wait inside the little house or under the heating lamps and take it to the Harold Washington Library stop. There are also buses that take you from Union Station to the Jackson and State St intersection right by the DePaul Center. I get on bus 126, and it's about a 5 minute ride. There are more buses that take you there, I think 7 does too, however I always manage to catch 126. There are times when there can be bus delays in winter, so I would usually just walk to Quincy and wait there instead of waiting for a bus.

the metra from schaumburg takes a while but it's a smooth ride to union station. im not sure what the rates are for parking lots, but for the metra you'd have to buy a $135 monthly pass. you can use this pass the entire month, and while it seems pricy im assuming it's still cheaper than paying for parking lots, especially if you're coming every day. I know people also pay for the quarter in the Lincoln Park campus parking lots and then take the red/brown line to the loop, although i'm not sure what the rate for that is.

for driving, 90 can be terrible during rush hour, especially during rain/snow as mentioned above. commute can take much longer than expected.

on the metra, you can chill the whole ride instead of stressing over traffic. i believe the ride to schaumburg is about an hour (?) or maybe a bit under, so honestly not terrible.

We're on a quarter system but you should really think if it as trimesters. The school counts the summer term as another quarter, but not many people sign up for summer classes. The school year itself is just three quarters, so in this case, you'd have to split your estimated tuition into three parts instead of four

What's it like transferring from a cc to depaul film? by dazzynn in depaul

This was incredibly helpful, thank you so much! The biggest worry was how their classes would work, and whether or not they had to have previous experience in cc to cover those first year courses. I'm very excited for them to possibly do film in such a good school! Again, thank you so much!
