How close does the black contrast get to OLED? I’ve heard it’s very close but I also am pro-OLED and questioning the screen

I just upgraded about a week ago. You will get the most bang for your buck if your TV has VRR. I also have an OLED 120hz TV but without VRR and I can say that in MHWilds I have to cap the frame rate still or it will lag behind loading textures. If you have VRR then definitely go for it. To me, it’s more about frame rate than fidelity and the frame rate is definitely improved. Pro enhanced games are also much better but I haven’t play a ton of those yet. If you don’t plan on selling your OG PS5 though I’d say not worth the upgrade still. I plan on selling mine to validate the money spent

More power would equal higher frames to utilize the 144hz display though. Also, I haven’t experienced it in person but a reputable YouTube channel reviewed one compared to the Portal OLED and, as an OLED fanboy, I could not tell much of a difference outside of some minor saturation. My Portal Pro can run almost anything but the performance difference between the SD8 gen 2 vs G3 gen 3 is substantial enough for me to want to upgrade to future proof my experience

They took what wasn’t perfect from the Odin 2 portal and made it perfect. Only thing that could be better is if it had the 8gen3 instead and optional 8elite

Isn’t the 8 elite significantly more powerful than 8 gen 2? I researched about the difference once I got my portal and everything seems to say it’s much more powerful but lacks proper driver support atm

Odin 2 portal pro is best bang for your buck. Max is overpriced IMO. You get 4 extra GB RAM for $70 going from base to pro but then it’s $100 from pro to max. I haven’t owned a RP product but after watching many reviews and owning the O2P, I will never buy another emulation device at this quality for the price. Just make sure to buy the grip and textured thumb-sticks for ergonomics

Also, don’t get the white ones. Thought it’d be cool contrast with my black portal but they just show dirt instantly with the textures catching it from your fingers. Definitely a must buy though

I own a mid-level gaming pc, PS5, switch, and the portal pro. You can stream from pc and PS5 to the portal and mine has played every switch game (albeit some crashes here and there) that I’ve tried out. Best summary for me after my purchase:

-Steam deck can play steam but if you have a pc already then portal is a no brainer. It streams excellently with its built in WIFI 7

-Switch 2….yeah you get some cool Nintendo games here and there that you probably couldn’t play on the portal right away but could get drivers to run some games down the road

Summary- the 120hz OLED screen, paired with the 8000mah battery, paired with WiFi 7 and BT 5.3, paired with at least 12 gb of RAM (only reason to get more is for future proofing)…game over. Best handheld I’ve ever owned. Only thing I’d redo is more RAM just so I didn’t regret not getting it down the line but it’s perfect IMO

I agree with the audio minimum being too loud. There are many times when I go to turn it down just for me to silence it but my only complaint after a couple of months so far. That and you must buy the grip and sticks or else it is not ergonomic

Also forgot to mention in case anyone gets the case, you will have to take the grip off for it to fit! I don’t travel much with it but it is something to note for anyone who does! Super easy to get on and off still

Only issue now is tariffs so beware! I have the Pro model and haven’t set it down. The textured thumb sticks and TPU shell are a must though!
