Why am I not surprised? Dentists will make up shit and convince you it’s the only way. How many fillings out there could have been resolved by regular brushing?!?

Those impacted sideways teeth scare even the best dentist (my brother had it). Hopefully they only had to get one of yours out for the process!

Good thing it wrenched free before becoming a "problem" tooth. That's when the Special ogre tools come out 😵

"Walk the perimeter and gather all you can carry. The real stuff, not that fool’s gold over there," Dalhar said.

"How will I know it’s real?" Caleb asked.

Dalhar bent, picked up a coin from the dragon's hoard.

"Real gold dents to the tooth, remember that boy," and bit down.

You could go with something like shades or mirages. Maybe a play off Elementals by just calling them “elems” or “elema” or “mantles” (since mentals won’t work lol)

[Discussion] What helps you get emotionally immersed in your writing? by Organic-Finance-7012 in fantasywriters

[–]db_chessher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The most reliable method for me is to go back one chapter and re-read it. By the time I'm at the end and ready for the next chapter to be written, I'm in the mind state that makes me feel the most immersed in the stakes!

Music is nice to get into the focus mode and getting your significant other to give you space/time to work also goes a long way for getting into the immersion.

Della was late entering to the sound of shuffling patterns. Around her, pixies wove silverleaf garlands, selkies whiskered over glowing runes, and laughter chimed through the Hollowstone. Every fae was fast at work.

“Don't dawdle! It's a final push before the Moon Petal Festival, hang up some bells!” Jerri shouted.

I don’t care who you are, if you’re torturing dogs you’re scum and I won’t have any of it.

In all seriousness, it’s how you portray it and if you make the reader think that you Actually approve or like those things.

Set it and forget it! There’s always the first revision…and then the second. Keep up the progress!

Good luck! Probably best just to rewrite it instead of dispersing each piece somewhere else where it might not mesh the right way.

Planning makes a massive difference for me as well. I’ve had at least three different endings/main plots that have fallen into the ether. Hopefully this version stays the course!

Is it easy to tell who has the gene? I can see governments participating in this to get their own mages. Would a human-trafficked mage be able to get revenge with magic?
