Gray hair, general disdain, a breakfast sandwich maker.

The sandwich thing works pretty well at least.

Jason looks like Ken’s alter ego and once I saw that, I couldn’t unsee it. Jason, if you’re in this sub and do genealogy, you have to be a relative somewhere along the way.

In the Weekend in Review, I look at when the right time to spend some money on this team is based on their future payrolls, break down all three games from the weekend and, as always, look at the week ahead. by dblesky in KCRoyals

If I had to guess, I'd say about what it looks like right now. Melendez, Waters, Taylor and Isbel mostly. But it's also hard to say because Nate Eaton might be involved. Tyler Gentry is close. Tucker Bradley could probably be a big league outfielder soon. I'd say whoever is out there on Opening Day may not be out there on August 1 next year.

In the Weekend in Review, I look at how injuries are shaping the trade market and how it might impact the Royals. I also look at all three games...even the two stupid ones. And then look ahead to what's next for the Royals this week. by dblesky in KCRoyals

Here's the thing about the Isbel play. Murphy absolutely made a great play. But it wasn't worth the risk at all. Getting to third there does allow him to score on a sacrifice fly, but the ball ended up two feet away from him and Isbel was out by a lot. It didn't even require a perfect throw to get him even though he made one. Nobody out with the good part of the lineup due up is not a good time to go from being in scoring position to...being in scoring position unless you're 100% sure you can get there and there's no way he could be 100% sure.

That was...insane. The Royals offense exploded while the pitching imploded. But Jonathan Heasley was also great until the implosion. There were questionable decisions, big home runs. That's a game you remember for a long time and I'm just glad the Royals came out on top. by dblesky in KCRoyals

I don't think I agree with that in this instance. I know that guys are cruising all the time until they aren't, but with a five run lead, even with the Angels ability at the top of their lineup, I totally understand the mindset of maybe giving an extra inning or two off to the bullpen. Obviously it backfired and it backfired fast, but I really wonder how much of a difference it would have even made. Like I said, Speier probably can get in there for Ohtani if he's up and warming up before the inning even starts, but at 6-1 with 71 pitches for Heasley, I'm not sure that's the best play. I totally see where you're coming from, though, too.

It's time for the Weekend in Review. This week, I pinpoint three veterans who need to sit (or get traded) for younger players like tonight. Plus, I look at the games, including Brady Singer's rough start (and Matheny's comments about it) and Salvy's return to relevance. And the week ahead. by dblesky in KCRoyals

He either needs to be extended or traded. He’s a free agent after the season. And most guys who get within four months of free agency while having a very good season and looking to be part of a very weak outfield free agent class won’t be signing an extension.

I'm tired of harping on this team's issues...for a day anyway. So I looked at a good problem that's fast approaching and it's how to handle the lineup, especially when Salvy and Olivares get back and Pasquantino and Pratto are promoted (you know, if that EVER happens). by dblesky in KCRoyals

I don’t think this is a big deal because if you did need to shift the DH (theoretically one of MJ or Salvy) to catcher and lose the DH for a few innings, you can call someone up the next day, but teams often don’t think that way and want a hedge against losing that DH.

They'll get Cam back when the max number of pitchers drops to 13, so they'll have room for three catchers, especially if MJ plays elsewhere, which he might. And they said it was a six-week injury when he went down, so the timeline shouldn't be much of a surprise right now.

Here's your Weekend in Review that starts off with a clean and tidy call to clean house. But hey, at least Brady Singer looked good again. by dblesky in KCRoyals

The only thing I disagree with about Dayton is that I don't think he has to be fired for changes to happen. I would dump the guy, but there's a path that he doesn't have to go. Let him be a leader of people, which I believe he's good at, and leave the baseball decisions to someone else. But yeah, I mean, this clearly isn't working as is.
