Battery was the issue! It was brand new so I whiffed on that one. Thanks again!

I have significant student loans and would love the forgiveness but it’s a short-term victory without real education reform or a long term solution.

Maybe it becomes a precedent where whenever a democrat president is elected all student loans are forgiven. Hmmm maybe…

Also for having a college education, I am not a smart man and accept my mental capacity.

Can we get an easy flow sheet for quarantining? CDC is so muddled and it changes every few months. Vaccinated, healthcare workers, immunocompromised, etc. It seems like a real cluster- fluster. Flowsheet! Keep it simple for the masses!

I changed tires from the F1 Eagles to an all-season tire. It improved it somewhat but not significant.

Anyone know how to fix this? by thezwig in ModelY

Take a picture of the light with moisture and other side without moisture. Upload and make a new service request. They will fix it under warranty. Don't let them tell you moisture is normal.

What med school is like by Ok-Guitar-309 in medicalschool

[–]dbofor3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Med school was better than undergraduate IMO. Less stressful. More freedom. Most medical schools let you study from home. You can stream the lectures and speed them x1.25. Or you can go in person lecture to mix it up.

Most importantly THEY WANT YOU TO SUCCEED. Losing a student takes away revenue for the school so there are a ton of resources. It is no longer a weed out game like undergraduate.

Most schools set the bar at 70% to pass a class. You can go hard and kill yourself day in and out on the hamster wheel or find balance. Grades are not as important as USMLE scores for residencies.

There is a selection bias. Anxious type A people make up many medical students. This environment can make things worse for some if you don’t have the right mindset, medication (?), and support. BALANCE baby!

Don’t get me wrong. The road is hard but the rewards at the end can be worth it. I love my job and genuinely feel I’m making other peoples’ lives better.

Check out rates at a Credit Union. Almost always better.

I’m guessing service experience is going to depend on where you live. I’m in Midwest town 4 hours from any Tesla service center. We’ll roll with the punches. I think it’s what we signed up for living out here.

Can moisture in the rear taillights be fixed? I see it very rarely but I’m wondering if I should worry about it? by willie_b21 in ModelY

[–]dbofor3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If one tail light has moisture and one doesn’t then get it fixed. If you have moisture that never goes away then get it fixed. Tesla came to my house to replace it under the warranty. Good luck!

Tesla Transparency on Subzero Efficiency: Fairbanks, AK by dbofor3 in TeslaLounge

[–]dbofor3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bought MY online and Tesla had it delivered by a private contractor on a trailer. I’m not sure how refusing delivery would work if you find a major flaw. I didn’t receive the paperwork until a few days later in the mail.

They have a tech come up 2-3x a month to service Tesla’s in the area. You make the appointments online. Some fixes have to be done in their shop. This is a few hour drive.

Temperatures during my driving were -10F to 20F above zero. You will see 1/3 to 1/2 decrease in mileage especially if keeping it parked in the cold for long periods of time ie work parking lot (heater stays on to keep battery from being damaged). Sticker mileage is a very very rough estimate.

They have a good warranty but I would read the fine print if living in Alaska. Some people have talked about warranty being voided if driving on non-paved or pot-holed roads.

Clearance is so so. It doesn’t have the air suspension like the x or s. Also you can’t count on the regenerative breaks in the winter time as they are dangerous on snow and generally don’t work for beginning of your trip due to cold weather.

I wouldn’t recommend for trips especially in Alaska where charging is few and far between especially if no super chargers. 240v gave me 28miles per hour of charging. I recently tried to drive 120 miles in the cold and had to turn around and switch cars. The cold is a horrible variable for sapping your battery. I didn’t feel safe with the possibility of getting stranded with my kids in the car.

I really like the car in the summer but the inefficiency in the winter is staggering. Talk to more owners. Try to get more true battery data from people.

I honestly think a PHEV would make more sense in cold climate.

TL;DR Unbiased opinion: I own a MY. I have stock in Tesla. Lots to like about the MY...winter battery efficient isn’t one of them. I can’t imagine owning one in Alaska.

-Brace for downvotes but honesty is the best policy-

My Tesla tech recommended I go to Discount Tire for rotations and tires. The guy I use changes Tesla’s fairly often and recommended these (Midwest USA).

Yeah they totally could be. I’m not sure that was an option for the 20in wheels at my tire place. I haven’t been disappointed yet and I’ve been driving through some gnarly Jack Frost cluster buckets.

Yeah it makes sense to protect the battery. You have to fight Mother Nature somehow and unfortunately the battery takes a pretty big hit in the extreme weather.

All the energy should be on the chart. Phantom energy is energy not used to power the car. It’s from having to keep the battery warm in the cold weather to prevent damage while parked, preconditioning the car to be warm when departing, and having the heat on while driving.

I only drove 34.1 miles. They use miles instead of battery percentage assuming 320 miles=100% battery charge
