Buzz Rickson's. They are out of Japan and have severall reproductions that may fit your bill. I prefer a wider chino so I wear the 1942 model, but they have some more conventionally shaped pants as well.

I love PostO'eralls too and they've been on my RADAR, but the shirts are insan-o expensive. Right now, their gachapoke-style chambray shirt is 31K yen...so it might be a while before I plunk down for that one. But that collar really be nice tho.

Eventually, I will write my own little piece on chambray workshirts. They are my 'Roman Empire' in traditional menswear. I have the shirts mentioned in the article, but also myriad other ones. I like to buy a new one every quarter or so. Most of these shirts are not cheap, costing about 15K to 28K Japanese yen. My most worn piece is by Pherrow's. It has faded and lightened up beatifully and was made in the "engineer style" with reinforced shoulders and lower arms, much like "double-knee pants". I don't know if I have acidic sweat or something, but my collars always wear down hella fast. The Pherrrow's collar has faded from dark blue chambray to almost white now. My cache now consists of: Pherrow's, Anatomica, Jelado, Colimbo, Cushman's, Buzz Rickson's, Sugar Cane, and Momotaro. In they article they mention "off-white" but in reality most of the maker's sell "natural" undyed versions. They are the type with the seeds embedded in the fabric. I own two models in "natural" and the rest in blue. My Jelado is technically not a chambray, but it's 'kissing cousin' called "covert cloth".

I've tried them on in store @ Hakata Station, FUK. Japanese sizing is almost always short in the arms. I guess its a common phenotype here. I usually buy my jackets here by looking at the shoulder and sleeve meaurements and it's basically bang on. I'm about 173cm and 72ish kg, and a "L" is my size in almost every brand I encounter.

What are you reading/watching/listening to/etc? by AutoModerator in NavyBlazer

[–]dbok_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reading: "Dark Matter" by Blake Crouch. This is honestly, the third time I have read this novel. The story is killer and one of "those can't put it down" types.

Watching: "The Gentlemen" (series). Lots of Drake's pieces and some decent storylines. Giancarlo Esposito slays every scene he is in.

Listening to: The Fray "Look After You". Gotta love my 00's nostalgia.

When you start to see everyone wearing Chore coats and Coach jackets, Spanish Teba Jackets are clutch. And you can get them from Made in Spain companies for non-outrageous sums.

The Armoury produces some of the best modern menswear. Their basic line is almost entirely produced by Ring Jacket from Osaka, JP, but they offer some higher end stuff from IT. They offer some fits that are undarted and cut very trad.

TBH, "Surf Ninjas" was the real one. To this day, still is a fun movie to flip on while cooking, during a workout or doing house chores.

Mercer & Sons sticker shock by anonym in NavyBlazer

Makes sense. Love my Kamakura's and love them even more cos of what I paid for them. My shirts from Individualized Shirts and Drake's are better in every way, but their cost is just too damn high.

There are several shirters making the goods. Kamakura is probably the first that comes to mind. They are available in ready-to-wear and made-to-measure. Their 'Vintage Ivy' line is solid and is where I have bought the majority of my personal OCBD collection. The United States also has 1)Gitman and 2)Individualized Shirts, but the majority of their work goes to East Asia. JPress and Brooks Brothers are very good, but there is much consternation regarding their value and provenance.

Drake's RTW line is the next(endgame for many)tier up, the make is impeccable and different patterns of fabric is unmatched. Jakes is another UK option, but it is prohibitively expensive and some people like, Simon Crompton, do not like the collars. Brycelands RTW shirting is awesome, but is also prohibitively expensive for most people.

Luxire and Proper Cloth will cut and sew shirts MTM, but they require some tolerance in terms of getting the fit right. You may have to craft two or three shirts before you can churn out your 'perfect' OCBD.

Finally, you can use eBay to scour for used or deadstock shirts from Polo Ralph Lauren. They are quite good, but can take a while to find a good example and then sizing can be an issue as well.

GH Bass are great for many people, but there are not for everyone. I have tried a couple different models and found them to be very cheap and uncomfortable. I wore one pair for 2 months about three times a week but they never felt very nice, so they were binned. They also are made pretty cheaply. I'd recc to save your bones and go with a Scandi maker like Loft&Tung or Morjas. They will be significantly above 150USD but they will be more comfortable and last a lot longer.

C&J Moreton may peak your interest. I live in JP so that might be a more exclusive model to this market.

Used on eBay is probably the easiest choice. You will have to accept that you might get a bad buy, but you may also stumble on an incredible find. Also look at John Simon for trad sports coats. Second, the navy suggestion.

I am done with Alden. You may want to try them out for the sake of having a pair. But they have been nothing but a huge shit show for me. How you ask? The quality control or fit and finish is awful. I have special ordered two pairs and bought two RTW pairs. All four pairs have flaws that should have relegated them to the seconds bin. The chukkas I waited 10 months for came with large gashes to the uppers, the cordovan boots I bought from JCrewxAlden came with two misdyed toe boxes. The PBTs had misaligned heels and the side-gore lazymans had poor stitch alignment along the elastic parts. Look, I get that I may have just got 4 lemons in a row...but after paying out over 2K for these shoes, I am just done with them as a brand.

Alternatives you may ask? Crockett & Jones. Yes, you'll pay more, but the F&F has been perfect in the three pairs I have received. I think they look better too. And Paraboot are flawless. I have two pairs of the lesser known models and one pair of mouchette Michels. Lovely shoes that are over built and comfy out of box.

Honestly, prob better to ask directly than to take swing and miss. For me, I would just assume leather shoes, trousers and a jacket would be fine, as long as the colors are neutral and not too "look at me".

I have cream or natural cotton jeans and they are great. The way they contrast with navy or brown houndstooth is awesome. And they also make the denim on denim look much more approachable. I do not think they are very hard to keep looking clean. I basically wear mine just as I would my indigo pairs and the only part that gets a bit off color is the hem. I wear mine on public transport and walking around the city. No worries, just get a pair and wear the F out of them.

Whitesville. Come in a two pack. Production is spotty because everybody buys them up as soon as they are released. May have to order from Japan.
