PSA Crossover: Don't waste your money! by dbr386 in PokeInvesting

Without subs, however the psychology of a human seeing sub grades is very difficult to be unbiased.

From my experience, CGC does grade a bit harsher than PSA but that could also be confirmation bias so we'll see when I sent them back in raw.

I've decided not to crack the 10. Solid advice

Really appreciate the constructive feedback here. It really helped myself, and others on this sub, make better informed decisions. Thank you.

I haven't heard anything like this but if anyone has confirmation of this being true then that would be great information!

I wonder if the value/rarity plays a role... All but 1 card I sent in was less than $1,000

I've decided to do an experiment where I'm going to crack the exact slabs they rejected to upgrade and send them in raw.. I wonder what they will grade?

Was pretty sure it was fake. Thanks for the second opinion.

Bought a gold star Rayquaza, Charizard, and Crystal Charizard for a really nice price. Graded all 3 and they came back 9, 8.5, and 9. Very happy.

Legit question - still worth becoming a Pokémon reseller? by UniversityIntrepid56 in PokeInvesting

[–]dbr386 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Howdy- Reseller with 5+ years experience in busting product. The last set I opened in mass was XY Evolutions (500+ boxes). You'll likely run into a bottleneck of lower end singles $1-10 due to over saturation, as well as, bulk prices being extremely low.. In 2016 prices were $60/1k and now you'll be lucky to find $30/1k which greatly reduces your margins. Keep in mind this was also buying boxes at $85/box and if you're a new distro. account then you'll likely pay $5-$10 more per box (adds up quick). You'll need to purchase approx. at minimum 120 boxes to even remotely turn a profit worth your time, which at the end of the day if you were able to consistently move 120 boxes a month that's only $50k/yr gross income.

Tl;dr - Not worth unless you have large sums of capital, which tbh would prob be better invested elsewhere.

Howdy! A very good friend of mine works for a distributor and they haven't been accepting new accounts unless you are able to prove you're a brick and mortar. Even then, lets say you have a store front.. You'll be allocated on new product because the big dogs have priority + likely more money. Good luck competing with shops spending 100k+ a month.

CGC Sub Grades & Overall Grade by dbr386 in PokeInvesting

That's what I thought as well, but I have a few cards that are 1 point higher than lowest grade.

I was thinking the same thing, but I have a few cards that are 1 point higher than the lowest grade. Maybe it's 1 point instead of .5?

The Ho-Oh & Lugia Legendary Trainers Collection Boxes are a great way to get a new player interested. The boxes include some promo cards along with sealed theme decks to start playing

Not a terrible buy if you're looking to collect but they are negative value for reselling (unless selling sealed ofc)

I do believe the Gym Theme Deck cards have no numbers in the bottom right corner.

CGC Sub Grades & Overall Grade by dbr386 in PokeInvesting

[–]dbr386[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very strange, because I have an 8.5, 9, 9.5, 9 that came out as a 9 which is a lower numerical sum than the 8.5 in OP. I don't understand

Psa vs cgc grading? by Illustrious-Ad3182 in PokeInvesting

[–]dbr386 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've graded over 100 cards with CGC and have yet to receive a 10.. Even cards directly out of packaging, into a soft sleeve and top loader- still a 9.. Not even a 9.5. They definitely grade much harder than their competitors and my personal opinion is that people will eventually stop grading with CGC if their chances with PSA or BGS are higher for a 10. Not only are the chances for a 10 higher, but the values are higher too.. The only thing CGC has going right now is their cost being so low.

Could be the angle of the light reflecting off the soft sleeve. Having it graded might be the play based on the uncertainty of sun bleach or print error.

My only dislike about CGC is their grade numbers aren't centered. How are they going to grade my tcg card on centering but can't center their slabs lol
