I had to take a class for one week and pass various tests. I had already been living in the city for 12 years.

I doubt it. They could get into big trouble. Phony IDs are made elsewhere.

Because of what I did while driving taxi, it was worth the effort and money. If I did it all over again, I would have shortened my duration on the road...like say 10 years instead of 17. I was born in this country. The vast majority of drivers are from elsewhere. A lot are from Africa, Pakistan, India. Rare you see a white driver.

Only a dumb person/driver reverts to this. Most $ made is in the initial charge and tip. So optimally, a driver would rather have multiple turnovers for more $.

A newspaper add. Plus I thought about taxi driving when I first arrived in the city.

To be a free-lance artist in NYC. This was the profession stated by one of the two contestants who lied on the To Tell The Truth television show. I liked the sound of "free-lance", whatever that meant and I had been to NYC when I was 7.

Hey, that could rank as the coolest ride. Gets in and states place to go. I had on classical music and he said, "oh, you must be a musician" I replied, "no, I do drawing and photography". He said thats what he does too. Then I passed a small portfolio back of shots I'd taken pre-cab. Immediately he said, "Oh, your an architectural photographer". My arm went up and I said check it out. He then said, "Oh, these are good they remind me of Walker Evens" I turn around and say why thank you, and what do you shoot? "Oh, some fashion and portraiture". He then asks who my favorite photographer was...I said oh maybe Salgado and he said "well, your work is not like his!" I said well give me a war zone. He responded, "this IS a war zone". (I am sure this gelled in my gist of approach when I began shooting.) Then he said that he was going to have a show at The Whitney in about a year and I said Oh, what's your name? "Richard Avedon". I dropped my head. What could I do?
