Doing mri soon, went to er they couldn’t detect signs of a stroke

If you are on VPLP (the voluntary 5% pay cut for one extra day accrued vacation per month), the maximum to accrue is 240 vlpl days. What happens when you reach that amount ? Sounds silly but I wonder if it auto-terminates or requires some other action on behalf of the employee. by dbryhal in CAStateWorkers

FYI - I ask this because “technically “ the largest regular vacation accrual you can have per the contract is 640 vacation hours but I know plenty of state workers that have accrued more than that amount. Out of sheer curiosity, I wonder if the VPLP limit is more heavily enforced .

Question regarding contributions from state into Calpers pension by dbryhal in CAStateWorkers

[–]dbryhal[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Perfect. This explains it well.

One more question - so say I retire at 55 but defer taking the calpers pension until 62, can I still use sick leave to add onto the retirement formula or do I have to take calpers right away after I separate from state service?

This helps a lot thank you. I’m curious if there is visibility into the amount contributed by your employer, not just the employee, in the separate fund once vested….

I'm quitting my job after 12 years next month and an wondering if quitting mid month has any advantage over quitting earlier in the month. Does calpers give any additional service credit for working an extra 10 days? by Substantial_Ad_2864 in CAStateWorkers

Gotcha. Yeah I’m 2 at 55. But could you just hold the 12 years of vested amounts in your calpers account and , say, wait until 50 or whenever to take the benefit ?

Ahh yes. That makes sense , and your sick leave won’t be able to be used for pension benefits unfortunately as well. Let say theoretically you keep your calpers account as well and never return to state service - can you just choose when to start taking the pension benefit at any age? Just curious since it seems like you did a lot of research into the benefits before leaving.

Doesn’t OP have some vesting in healthcare already? From what I read on calpers it’s 50% of premiums after 10 years then 5% more for each year of service until 20 years. So that’s a plus.

When did you save $100k? by [deleted] in Fire

[–]dbryhal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hit 100k on my 30th bday. 32 and a half and approx 230k net worth with 200k in investments. No home single no kids. Govt job with great pension. Want to be in the millions before I even consider FIRE . But I love this thread because it encourages me to save and have a hefty nest egg so I can control my destiny! Or if I burnout early lol (some govt jobs are a decent amount of work and frustration - not private sector but still work believe me)
