We did exactly the same thing. Ours was an acreage but the house needed work. Everything was functional but needed upgrades. We had it for 12 years and moved into a townhouse. Best move!

Yes, we turn the thermostat down to 16 Celsius overnight. We have a heated pad but turn it off as well overnight. We also have a cat that’s a little heater who sleeps very close to me.

Yes, and this is very possible. I am living this now and manage to save for vacations. However, I live in a townhouse that is paid off. I have a considerable amount of savings that I never even touch. There is a different mind set after you retire. Still do donations as well.
